Sai Agni Jeevitesh dominates 1st Check N Mate Rapid Rating Open 2024

IM Sai Agni Jeevitesh J scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Check N Mate Rapid Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Three players - GM Laxman R R, FM Ojas Kulkarni and IM Avinash Ramesh scored 8/9 each. They secured second to fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Only Sai and Ojas remained undefeated among the podium finishers. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating tournament was organized by Check N Mate on 22nd September 2024 at Linden Montessori in Bangalore, Karnataka. Tech Mahindra GCL Day 6: Hikaru ends Firouzja's unbeaten streak, Carlsen blunders against MVL

Hikaru Nakamura ended Alireza Firouzja's unbeaten streak at Tech Mahindra Global Chess League 2024. Just when everyone thought the game will end in a draw, Firouzja offered his rook up for trade. The resultant pawn endgame turned out to be completely winning for the Speed King. IM Bibisara Assaubayeva and GM Elisabeth scored the crucial wins to secure teh win for American Gambits over Triveni Continental Kings. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave defeated Magnus Carlsen for the second consecutive year at this event. Alpine SG Pipers suffered a loss against upGrad Mumba Masters. Peter Svidler and Raunak Sadhwani were the other two victors of uMM. Anish Giri scored his first win of the event against Vishy Anand. Alina Kashlinskaya and Nihal Sarin scored the wins to ensure they beat Ganges Grandmasters. PBG AK is now one match win away from securing their spot in the Finals. 50th National Women R1-6: Padmini and Sarayu emerge coleaders

The reigning and defending champion, IM Padmini Rout and Sarayu Velpula are the coleaders 5.5/6 at the end of Round 6 of 50th National Women Championship 2024. Padmini's sole draw was against WIM Priyanka K in the fifth round. Top seed Sarayu conceded only one draw against WIM Mrudul Dehankar. She defeated the previous edition's runner-up and reigning Commonwealth Women's Gold medalist, WGM Mary Ann Gomes. Alireza Firouzja is in the form of his life. He defeated Maxime Vachier-Lagrave for the second time in consecutive days. MVL tried to take the game to him, however, he could not find the good moves at the right moment. Alexandra Kosteniuk scored the only other win for the team which helped Triveni Continental Kings register their fourth win of the event, 0-3 (8-10) against upGrad Mumba Masters. Anish Giri made a nice queen sacrifice to build a fortress and draw with Magnus Carlsen. Yifan Hou and Kateryna Lagno scored the wins for SG Alpine Pipers. Nihal Sarin's sole win for Balan Alaskan Knights was not enough to win the match. Ganges Grandmasters scored their second match win of the event, thanks to GM Volodar Murzin and IM Nurgyul Salimova's individual wins. The 12th edition of the IBCA World Junior and World Women Championship for the Blind and Visually-Impaired concluded on 6th October, featuring 144 thrilling games across both sections. In the Junior section, Julia Salamon clinched the gold medal with 8 points after a hard-fought final round, followed by Racis Michal (7.5 points) winning silver, and Nurgisa Kuanyshuly securing bronze with 7 points. In the Women’s section, Zslitzova Lubov dominated with 9 points to win gold, while Emilia Egeman took silver with 7.5 points, and Emilia Tryjanska earned bronze with 7 points. Nitish Belurkar dominates Late Sunandabai Dayanand Bandodkar Memorial Blitz Rating Open 2024

IM Nitish Belurkar scored an unbeaten 10.5/11 to win Late Sunandabai Dayanad Bandodkar Memorial Blitz Rating Open 2024. He finished a massive 1.5 points ahead of the field. Four players - Mandar Pradip Lad, Indrajeet Mahindrakar, Kiran Panditrao and Harish Sharma scored 9/11 each. They were placed second to fifth according to tie-breaks. Nitish defeated all of them. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹12000, ₹10000 and ₹8000 along with a trophy each. The two-day eleven round Blitz tournament was organized by Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association on 19th and 20th September 2024 at Institute Menezes Braganza Hall in Panaji, Goa. Tech Mahindra GCL Day 4: Carlsen and Nakamura battle a thriller, Balan Alaskan Knights maintain their sole lead

Alireza Firouzja continues his phenomenal form at this event. He won the French derby against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave to power his team Triveni Continental Kings to a victory over upGrad Mumba Masters 3-0 (12-3). American Gambits started the day with a win over Ganges Grandmasters 3-0 (10-4). However, they finished the day with a loss against Alpine SG Pipers 3-0 (9-7). Hikaru Nakamura showed some excellent resiliency against Magnus Carlsen. He even got a winning chance at the end but unfortunately he missed it and the game ended in a draw. PBG Alaskan Knights registered their fifth consecutive win. Alpine was their fifth victim. However, Nihal Sarin and Daniel Dardha's game stirred up a hornet's nest. The 12th edition of the World Junior and Women's Chess Championship for the Blind and Visually Impaired started on the 27th of September 2024. The tournament is taking place at the Chancery Pavilion Hotel, Residency Road, Bengaluru. It is a nine-round Swiss tournament with a time control of 90 minutes + 30 Seconds increment from the first move. There are a total of 32 participants in the tournament with 12 in the Junior and 20 in the Women's section. Apart from India, there are many players from different countries like Ukraine, Poland, the USA, and many others participating in the event. With only one round left, Julia Salamon is leading the Junior's section with 7 points and Zsiltzova Lubov is leading the Women's section with a full 8 points. Saptarshi RoyChowdhury wins 2nd Late Shri Vasudev V Dempo Memorial Rating Open 2024

GM Saptarshi RoyChowdhury and Rupam Mukherjee scored 7.5/9 each at 2nd Late Shri Vasudev V Dempo Memorial Rating Open 2024. Saptarshi won the tournament on tie-breaks, Rupam was placed second. IM Abhishek Kelkar edged past six more players on tie-breaks to finish third scoring 7/9. Saptarshi remained undefeated. Rupam's sole loss was against the eventual champion, Saptarshi in Round 6. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹380000. The top three prizes were ₹53000, ₹37000 and ₹27000 along with a trophy each. The six-day nine round rating tournament was organized by Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association from 17th to 22nd September 2024 at Institute Menezes Braganza Hall in Panaji, Goa. Alireza Firouzja defeated Hikaru Nakamura and Vishy Anand in consecutive games. He outplayed both of them. A win against World no.1, 2 and a legend is certainly going to skyrocket Firouzja's confidence. Triveni Continental Kings lost their second match of the day after Parham Maghsoodloo and IM Nurgyul Salimova empowered their team, Ganges Grandmasters to their first victory, despite their 'Icon' board Anand losing to Firouzja. It was the closest match of the tournament so far in terms of game points, 8-10. PBG Alaskan Knights maintain their sole lead by winning all four games in-a-row. Sriram Adarsh Uppala scored 7/9 to win 28th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit 2024. He finished a full point ahead of the rest and also secured his second IM-norm in the process. Dhruva Thota and CM Aakash G scored 6/9 each. They were placed second and third respectively as Dhruva defeated Aakash in the final round and spoiled his norm chances. Sriram suffered his sole loss of the event against Aakash in Round 2. PBG Alaskan Knights won both of their games on the second day of Tech Mahindra Global Chess League 2024. First they defeated American Gambits 3-0 (14-2). Then they won against upGrad Mumba Masters 3-0 (8-5). Nihal Sarin was undoubtedly the star player of the day as he not only won both game but also scored a crucial victory ensuring a hat-tric k, both for himself and the team. Magnus Carlsen lost a winning game against Alireza Firouzja as the latter flagged him. Some might call it 'dirty flagging'. The world no.7 just executed the rules to his advantage and won. The event is made for television broadcast and that certainly makes for good tv moment. But does that make Firouzja stronger rapid player than Carlsen? PBG Alaskan Knights made a fantastic start by defeating the defending champions, Triveni Continental Kings on the first day of Tech Mahindra Global Chess League 2024. The inaugural edition's bottom finisher made a roaring start by registering a 3-0 (15-3) win. Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and Nihal Sarin ensured the team's success.
