Tech Mahindra Global Chess League started with a gala opening ceremony at Merchant Taylors' Hall in London, England. The opening ceremony had a lot of things happen - celebrated chess journalist, Peter Doggers revealed his new book - The Chess Revolution, Arjun Erigaisi and Anish Giri answered a few questions with him, Sameer Pathak, CEO of TMGCL announced that ChessBase India youtube channel reached 2 Million subscribers and congratulated the team for the contribution, special awards were given to the teams for making good moves both on and off the board, teams posed with the winner's trophy and an acapella performance to conclude the evening. Tech Mahindra Global Chess League 2024 teams and squads unveiled

Tech Mahindra Global Chess League starts tomorrow in London, England. It will be a six-team double round-robin event. Six members will play in each team comprising an icon, two male, two female and one prodigy (Under-21) in each round. Vishy Anand, Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, Alireza Firouzja, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Anish Giri are the 'Icons' who will take part in this event. There will be various 'Superstars' and six 'Prodigies' who will also be part of the second edition. Triveni Continental Kings are the defending champions. The remaining five teams are - Alpine SG Pipers, PBG Alaskan Knights, American Gambits, Upgrad Mumba Masters and Ganges Grandmasters. The Indians apart from Anand taking part in this event are - Arjun Erigaisi, R Praggnanandhaa, Vidit Gujrathi, Nihal Sarin, Raunak Sadhwani, Koneru Humpy, Harika Dronavalli and R Vaishali. Evgeniy Podolchenko wins 27th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit 2024, Sriram Adarh Uppala third

GM Evgeniy Podolchenko scored an unbeaten 6.5/9 to win 27th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. GM Manik Mikulas (SVK) scored sole 6/9 to finish second. Sriram Adarsh Uppala and GM Tair Vahidov (UZB) scored 5.5/9 each. Sriram was placed third due to better tie-break score. The seven-day ten-player round-robin tournament was organized by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association at Hotel Alankar Grande in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu from 7th to 13th September 2024. Singapore Chess Federation in association with FIDE are organizing a 'High Performance Masterclass' training camp from 25th November to 28th November. This four-day camp will provide training from world-class trainers like GM Jacob Aagaard, GM Thomas Luther, and GM Pavel Eljanov. Participants will also get an opportunity to compete in the Singapore International Open tournament which will take place from 29th November to 5th December. SCF will provide twin-sharing accommodation with meals to the participants as well as cover the tournament entry fees. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for chess players to witness the World Championship match closely and take their chess journey to the next level! Two Indians in World Top five for the first time ever - Arjun Erigaisi World #3, Gukesh #5

India's historic performance at the 45th Chess Olympiad 2024 caused a lot of huge changes in the rating list. Arjun Erigaisi is now World no.3. He gained 19.2 Elo rating points for his stellar performance on Board no.3. The World Championship Challenger, D Gukesh is now World no.5. He gained a whopping 30.1 Elo rating points. Both Arjun and Gukesh won double Gold. Vidit Gujrathi gained 6 rating points, Harikrishna 2.1. Currently, there are four Indians in top 12, five in top 22, six in top 33, seven in top 42 and eleven in top 98. Among the Women, four Indians maintain their top 15 places. IM Divya Deshmukh moved up to World no.11 and India no.2 among women after her fantastic double Gold medal winning run at the Olympiad. She crossed 2500 and her rating is now 2501. Garv Gaur wins SARK India - CPA Rajasthan Rapid Rating Open 2024

FM Garv Gaur, IM Aaditya Dhingra and Kartavya Anadkat scored 8/9 each at SARK India - CPA Rajasthan Rapid Rating Open 2024. Garv won the tournament on tie-breaks, Aaditya and Kartavya were placed second and third respectively. The top two finishers remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000 + trophies. The top three prizes were ₹41100, ₹25000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each respectively. The two-day rating tournament was organized by Chess Parents Association Rajasthan on 7th and 8th September 2024 at S M S Indoor Stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Two ChessBase India Training Camps to Be Held in October: Registration Starts Now!

If you have been waiting for the ChessBase India Training Camp, here's some good news! In the upcoming month of October, two training camps are going to be held. The 5th edition of the ChessBase India Training Camp will take place from October 8th to 13th, while the 6th camp will be held from October 19th to 23rd. As always, the camp will be limited to only 12 players, and it will be based entirely on a 'first-come, first-served' registration policy. Additionally, 2 spots in these camps are reserved for players from Madhya Pradesh. During the camp, participants will undergo about 8 hours of training per day, amounting to nearly 40 hours of rigorous training throughout the camp. At the end of the camp, participants will be awarded certificates. Upon the conclusion of the first camp, players will have the opportunity to participate in the Khelo Chess India Rapid and Blitz Tournament, while after the second camp, they will get to play in the Khelo Chess India Blitz Tournament. FIDE Instructor Niklesh Jain and Colombia’s former national champion, Woman International Master Angela Franco, will be the trainers for the camp. To register, read the full article.

Chaitanya V Gaonkar convincingly clinches 6th Marvel Below 1800 Rating 2024

Chaitanya V Gaonkar scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 6th Marvel Below 1800 Rating Tournament 2024. The teenager finished a half point ahead of the field and gained 126 Elo rating points. Seetasagar Konaparthi and Shubham Kumar scored 8/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹600000. The top three prizes were ₹75000, ₹50000 and ₹40000 along with a trophy each respectively. The three-day rating tournament was organized by Rajashekar Bhagavatula from 3rd to 5th September 2024 at Puchalapalli Leela Sundarayya Function Hall in Hyderabad, Telangana. FM Akshay Borgaonkar scored an unbeaten 7/9 to win 26th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2024. He finished a full point ahead of the competition and also scored an IM-norm. FM Harshit Pawar scored sole 6/9 to secure second place. Harshit's sole loss of the event was against the eventual champion, Akshay. IM-elect FM S Harshad scored 5.5/9 to finish third. His sole loss was against Harshit. IM Jubin Jimmy and WCM Aaradhya Das win 5th Pursue Your Chess Scholarship of Rs.1,50,000

The longest Scholarship under the HelpChess Foundation ‘Pursue Your Chess’ is back this year. This 5th edition of the Scholarship has the amount of Rs. 1,50,000. The person behind this scholarship, Ashwin Subramanian is now a well-known person in the chess world. He has provided financial and technical support to many chess players. Every year, he has increased the Scholarship amount by Rs. 25,000 showing his commitment to nurturing Indian talents. The winners of this year’s Scholarship are IM Jubin Jimmy from Kerala and WCM Aaradhya Das from Tripura. Out of the total amount, Jubin Jimmy won Rs. 1,25,000 and Aaradhya Das won Rs. 25,000.

Ian Nepomniachtchi tops 10th Gashimov Memorial 2024 Rapid

Ian Nepomniachtchi finished at the top of the standings at 10th Vugar Gashimov Memorial 2024 Rapid. He started the day with a win over Richard Rapport (HUN), then suffered his sole loss of the event against Rauf Mamedov (AZE). He bounced back in the next round with a win against Aravindh Chithambaram. The former World Championship Challenger drew with Aydin Suleymanli (AZE) to finish with 10/14, a full point ahead of Shakhriyar Mamedyarov. Aravindh Chithambaram had a better second day as he drew with Mamedyarov and defeated Suleymanli. He finished the Rapid event scoring 5/14. Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) made a strong comeback by winning the last two games to finish with 8/14. Dr. IM Anwesh Upadhyaya, GM Saptarshi RoyChowdhury and Karan J P scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 each at 5th Marvel Rating Open 2024. Anwesh won the tournament on tie-breaks, Saptarshi and Karan were placed second and third respectively. Anwesh drew with the only GM taking part in this event, Saptarshi to become the champion. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹600000. The top three prizes were ₹75000, ₹50000 and ₹40000 along with a trophy each respectively. The five-day rating tournament was organized by Marvel Chess Academy from 29th August to 2nd September 2024 at Puchalapalli Leela Sundarayya Function Hall in Hyderabad, Telangana.
