Chess as a sport either exist as a co-curricular activity or as one of the sports offered in many school and college all across the country, part of a games class. Very few educational institute has chess as mandatory academic subject but even then it is mostly restricted to certain classes in the school. However Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences Bhubaneswar made a historic decision to implement chess as a part of curriculum for over 60000 students which is unprecedented. Bangladesh Police took sole lead 6.0/6 at the conclusion of Round 3 in Mujib Borso SAIF Powertec Premier Division Chess League. Uttara Central Chess Club went down by 1-3 against the sole leader. Bangladesh Navy jumped to the shared second position by beating Titas Club. They joined SAIF Sporting Club who had a rest day. GM Gukesh D scored an important victory for his Bangladesh Biman as he decimated his opponent CM Sohel Chowdhury with a brilliant display of attack. Anish Giri deservedly wins Magnus Invitational

2021 seems to be Giri's year as he beat Nepomniachtchi in the finals to win Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Magnus Carlsen Invitational. Giri dominated Tata Steel Chess 2021 and the same can be said for the Magnus Invitational. After all, he was the first person to beat Carlsen in two consecutive editions of Magnus Invitational. Yes Nepomniachtchi beat Carlsen in the Semi-Finals but it was Giri who had the last laugh. With Candidates less than a month away, there is a good chance that Giri would continue his momentum there. Bangladesh Premier League R2: Ganguly held to a draw by Aronyak

IM Aronyak Ghosh of Leonin Chess Club scored the sole half point for his team as he held GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly of Bangladesh Police to a draw in Round 2 of Mujib Borso SAIF Powertec Premier Division Chess League. SAIF Sporting Club scored 0-4 whitewash victory over Janata Bank Officer Welfare Society. Both Bangladesh Police and SAIF Sporting Club are in shared lead with 4.0/4 at the conclusion of Round 2. Giri or Nepomniachtchi - Who will win the Magnus Invitational?

Giri started with a determination to beat Nepomniachtchi in the very first game but it ended up in a draw in the Finals of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Magnus Carlsen Invitational. The next three games also ended up in draws. Giri will obviously look for a way to avenge his prelims loss and get an edge heading into the Candidates next month. Carlsen was quite determined to avenge his loss against So and that's exactly what he did as he won the first set by 3-1. Defending champion Bangladesh Police started their campaign with a 4-0 whitewash victory over Sheikh Russel Chess Club at Mujib Borso SAIF Powertec Premier Division Chess League. SAIF Sporting Club registered a victory by minimum margin 2.5-1.5 over Sonali Bank Sports & Recreation Club. Titas Club Chess Team scored a big upset by winning against Bangladesh Biman 2.5-1.5. FIDE Candidates will resume next month, however we are going to get a sneak peek at the Finals as Giri and Nepomniachtchi eliminated World Champions So and Carlsen from Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Magnus Carlsen Invitational. Carlsen's unlucky 30 curse continues as he is still yet to win a tournament since he turned 30 last November. Of course you cannot take anything away from Nepomniachtchi or Giri as they both can beat anyone in the world on any given day which is exactly what happened. Indian players will return to the board at Bangladesh Premier Chess League

8 GMs and 6 IMs will end their over a yearlong drought of playing over-the-board chess tournaments as they start their campaign tomorrow for their respective teams in SAIF POWERTEC Premier Division Chess League at Bangladesh's capital Dhaka city. It will be a round robin team championship between eleven teams. The winner will receive Tk 125000, runner-up will earn Tk 75000 and second runner-up will get Tk 50000. Both Carlsen and So are in tremendous form as they once again needed only three games to beat their respective opponents and advance to the Semi-Finals of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Magnus Carlsen Invitational. Carlsen will face Nepomniachtchi and So will be up against Giri in the Semi-Finals. Nepomniachtchi was also dominant against Nakamura as he also needed only three games to advance while Giri also delivered a solid performance against Vachier-Lagrave. Carlsen seems to be back to his true form as he won the first set 2.5-0.5 against Aronian in the Quarter-Finals of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Magnus Carlsen Invitational. The world champion was winning the third game too but he did not push too hard as a draw was enough for him to win the first set. So is the only other player who had a dominant showing Firouzja. Although the younger talent had a good opportunity to win the third game but he made a draw and lost the set. FIDE Rated Over-The-Board Classical chess event IPS Academy Cup is here

IPS Academy in Indore, Madhya Pradesh is organizing the 1st IPS Academy Cup from the 7th to the 11th of April 2021. The tournament is organized within the premises of the academy and the organizers are also providing accommodation and food within the institute to all the players!
