FTX Road to Miami R1-4: Arjun Erigaisi beats Levon Aronian again

It continues to add another chapter as Arjun got the better of the only two-time World Cup winner in history in the second round of FTX Road to Miami. This win will definitely be a huge boost for Arjun as the 44th Chess Olympiad is just over a fortnight away where India vs USA clash is likely on the cards. Since both of them are on Board no.3, we might see them face each other on the grandest stage with the highest stakes too. The teenager defeated another World Cup victor, Teimour Radjabov in Round 3. Vitaly Sivuk wins 2nd La Plagne Chess Festival 2022 Masters, Iniyan second and Sayantan third

GM Vitaly Sivuk (UKR) and GM Iniyan P scored unbeaten 7/9 each at 2nd La Plagne International Open 2022 Masters. They were placed first and second according to tie-breaks. Four players scored 6.5/9 each. IM Sayantan Das and IM Nubairshah Shaikh were placed second and third according to tie-breaks. After tying for second place in two consecutive events - 4th Prague Chess Festival and 15th Teplice Open 2022, tie-breaks finally went to Iniyan's favor as he secured the second place. Had Nubair won his final round game against Sivuk, the top three places would have been dominated by India. Nevertheless, second to fourth is good too. Moreover, Nubair had already won the Blitz event.

Arjun Erigaisi will face the World's best at FTX Road to Miami

The fifth leg of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour 2022 season is FTX Road to Miami. Arjun Erigaisi will be the sole Indian taking part in this event. He will face his nemesis Levon Aronian on the very first day of the Prelims, in Round 2. They will be joined by the three Candidates - Teimour Radjabov, Jan-Krzysztof Duda and Richard Rapport. Radoslaw Wojtaszek, Jeffery Xiong and Sam Sevian will be making their Tour debuts. Three more Americans will also be seen in action - Leinier Dominguez Perez, Sam Shankland and teenager Hans Niemann. Women's World Champion Ju Wenjun, Wei Yi, Anish Giri, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and Aryan Tari are also there. Round 1 starts tonight at 9:30 p.m. IST. Photo: chess24

The Ding Liren Interview on Candidates 2022

Ding Liren had a very tough start at the Candidates 2022. He lost his first game and then a series of seven draws ensued. With all the work he had done to qualify for the candidates, things were going wrong for him. But the Chinese no.1 is a fighter! The World no.2 started scoring one win after another, ending with a very impressive 8.0/14 and finishing second at the Candidates. We conducted an interview with him, discussing his performance at this elite event and going through the critical positions in each of his games. 

Aronyak Ghosh triumphs at 2nd Athens of the East GM Open 2022

IM Aronyak Ghosh made a blazing start 6/6. Then he drew the next three games. In the final round, he was up against GM Boris Savchenko. It was a must-win game for him to clinch the championship as a draw meant Hari Madhavan N B winning the event on tie-breaks. Aronyak managed to win the last round game, the tournament 8.5/10 and cross 2500 in the live ratings too. His live rating is now 2502.4. Hari Madhavan N B scored sole 8/10 to secure second place. He also earned his second IM-norm. He is now final IM-norm and 15 Elo rating points away from becoming India's next International Master. GM Tran Tuan Minh (VIE) scored 7.5/10 and was placed third according to tie-breaks.

Gukesh dominates 14th Gijon City Closed, now World no.41

GM D Gukesh won his fifth consecutive tournament in Spain, fourth in this year. He scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 14th Gijon City Closed tournament. He finished a massive 1.5 points ahead of the competition. Gukesh started his Spain triumph last year in September by winning 4th Concello de Carballo Clasico. Then he won 48th La Roda Open, Menorca Open, Formentera Open, and now at Gijon. He won all these five events much ahead of the field, he put the tie-breaks completely out of question. The youngest GM of India, gained 9.7 Elo rating points, taking his live rating to 2693.6 and becoming World no.41. 35th Leon Masters: Vishy Anand beats Jaime Santos Latasa, advances to the Final

The Magistral de Leon is an annual traditional event. The main event of the 35th edition will see Vishy Anand, Jaime Santos Latasa, Boris Gelfand and Andrey Esipenko battle in a Knockout Rapid tournament. Anand defeated Jaime 2.5-1.5 in their first Semifinal match. He will face the winner of Gelfand and Esipenko in the Finals on Sunday. Despite starting the Semifinal with a loss, Anand immediately struck back in the second game. After a draw in the third game, he won the fourth one again to win the match and secure his place in the Final. Anand is certainly aiming to win the Leon Masters for the tenth time. Soundarya wins Gold, Silver for Kishan and Swapnil at 9th IBCA World Team Championship

Team India finished sixth overall at 9th IBCA World Team Chess Championship for the Blind and Visually Impaired. The team secured their highest ever finish at this event. They managed to bag three individual medals. Soundarya Kumar Pradhan clinched Gold on Board no.2 with a score of 6/7. Kishan Gangolli and Swapnil Shah won a Silver medal each on Board no.3 and 5 with a score of 5/7 and 3/5 each respectively. Two Golds and a Silver, and the highest ever finish for the team at IBCA World Team will definitely motivate them to achieve more success and bring more laurels for the country in their future endeavors. Pravin Thipsay carries the Chess Olympiad Torch from Patna to Bodh Gaya

India's third and Maharashtra's first GM Pravin Thipsay received the Chess Olympiad Torch at Patna, Bihar. He relayed it to Rajgir and Bodh Gaya. The Arjuna Awardee has won a lot of accolades and countless laurels for the country. Our very own cofounder, IM Sagar Shah also had the opportunity to be one of his students at one point. The maestro does not need a book or any chess material to teach his students, he can recollect chess classics from his memory and edify. He is an accomplished coach, trained strong players like GM Lalit Rohit, GM S L Narayanan, IM Nisha Mohota, WGM Vantika Agrawal and more. Iniyan travels 14000 km in four days to attend Chess Olympiad Torch Relay

How far would you be willing to go when the calling comes? India's 61st GM Iniyan P travelled 14000 km via flight, train, bus and car to attend the Chess Olympiad Torch Relay at Jaipur and Ajmer in Rajasthan. Despite having the plan to play a series of tournaments in Europe, when AICF invited the 19-year-old GM, he answered. He made the most out of his four-day break from tournaments. The teenager from Tamil Nadu not only attended the ceremony but also played simultaneous exhibition matches against 20 players for two hours. Iniyan once again shows that he is always ready to do something for chess, both for himself and the entire chess universe.

Evgenios Ioannidis wins Serbia Open 2022 Masters, Aryan Chopra second

GM Aryan Chopra pushed for maximum to win his final round game. He scored sole 7.5/9 to secure second place. IM Evgenios Ioannidis (GRE) continued his great form by winning the last round and won the Serbia Open 2022 Masters with a score 8/9. 19 players scored 6.5/9. Out of them, GM B Adhiban, IM Aditya Mittal and GM Harsha Bharathakoti finished in top ten at sixth, seventh and ninth place according to tie-breaks. Aditya Mittal scored his final GM-norm with an unbeaten 6.5/9. WIM Sakshi Chitlange gained a massive 82 Elo rating points. 111th seeded IM Harshavardhan G B scored an impressive 6.5/9 to finish 19th. Saptarshi RoyChowdhury receives the Chess Olympiad Torch at Jhansi

India's 35th and West Bengal's sixth GM Saptarshi RoyChowdhury received the Chess Olympiad Torch at Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. Saptarshi had podium finishes in all over the country and Prague, Czech Republic. He has won a Round Robin tournament in Bangladesh and various open tournaments in the country. CM Ojasva Singh increased his rating 1933 to 2278 within three months in 2021. He has won a few state level open tournaments and also a round-robin event in Novi Sad, Serbia. After WFM Nityata Jain, Ojasva became the second teenager to participate in the Torch Relay who is not an IM, WGM or GM. They both are a strong prospect for a future WIM and IM. Photo: AICF

Arpan Das dominates 1st HDCA All India Rating Open 2022

The second seed of the tournament, Arpan Das scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st HDCA All India Rating Open 2022. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Top seed of the tournament, IM FT Suvrajit Saha made 8/9 to finish second. 16-year-old Ayush Jha was placed third with a score of 7.5/9. The entire top three finishers remained undefeated. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹250000. Top three prizes were ₹50000 and a trophy, ₹30000 and ₹20000 cash respectively. Check out the champion's thoughts on his triumph and the tournament. Anurag Mhamal relays the Chess Olympiad Torch from Panaji to Bhopal

India's 48th and Goa's first GM Anurag Mhamal along with IM Bhakti Kulkarni relayed the Chess Olympiad Torch at the Panaji, Goa. Anurag was also the state's first IM. He won Gold at Asian Junior Boys 2013 Blitz, had several podium finishes in various open tournament held at Greece, Malaysia and Spain. Bhakti is a two-time National Women champion, a former Asian Women and Junior Girls Gold medalist. She has won a lot of medals for India at various levels. Last year she was instrumental in India's historic Silver medal win at World Women's Team Championship 2022.
