Kumar Gaurav dominates 1st Mungeli Trophy Rating Open 2023

Second seeded Kumar Gaurav scored a staggering 9.5/10 to win 1st Mungeli Trophy Rating Open 2023. He finished a whopping 1.5 points ahead of the field. Despite drawing his third round game, he won the next seven games to become a clear champion. Kamad Mishra made sole 8/9 to finish second. Five players scored 7.5/9. Out of them, Mobin Farooque was adjudged third according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹150000. Praggnanandhaa quite possibly made one of the best saves of his career against Magnus Carlsen. The teenager drew with the world no.1 for the first time in a Classical game in their second ever Classical encounter at the penultimate round of 85th Tata Steel Chess Masters 2023. He deservedly received the compliment of "...he defends very well". No matter how the tournament ends for Pragg, he has certainly shown that he hang with the very best in the world. Abdusattorov drew with So. He is in a very good position to win the tournament. If he draws and Giri wins the final round, we might see a Playoff. Gukesh drew with Aronian in a well contested battle. IM Ameya Audi scored a sensational 9/9 to win Late Venkatesh and Sumathi Shanbag Memorial 2nd Rapid Rating Open 2023. He finished a full point ahead of the competition. Lad Mandar Pradip and IM Nitish Belurkar scored 8/9 each. They were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹25000, ₹15000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. The winner also received a rolling trophy. Tata Steel 2023 R11: Calm before storm

Six out of seven games ended in draws in the eleventh round of 85th Tata Steel Chess Masters 2023. The only decisive game was won by Parham Maghsoodloo against R Praggnanandhaa. The teenager made a questionable choice of offering his knight for exchange after spending the majority of the opening maneuvering it on the board. This was his second consecutive loss and he will face Magnus Carlsen in the penultimate round. The Norwegian would certainly try to win his last two games and hope things work out in his favor for a Playoff and possibly win the event too. Round 12 starts today at 6:30 p.m. IST. Aishwin Daniel wins Khelo Chess India Late R Satyamurthy Memorial Rapid Open 2023

Aishwin Daniel won the first Khelo Chess India Rapid Open 2023. The tournament was organized in Bhopal with the aim of taking chess to every household in the central India. Aishwin scored 6/7, remained undefeated, edged past three more players to become the champion. It was held in memory of Late R Satyamurthy, the first National chess player of Madhya Pradesh. Vedant Bhardwaj, Ravi Pallsule and Rajeev Singh Parihar also scored 6/7. They were placed second to fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. Shantanu Bhambure dominates 1st GCH Sharad Pawar Rapid Rating Open 2023

One of the latest IMs of India, Shantanu Bhambure scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st GCH Sharad Pawar Rapid Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Four players scored 8/9. Aakash Sharadchandra Dalvi and Shailesh Baria were placed second and third according to tie-breaks. Aakash also remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹25000, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each. A total of 412 players including 5 IMs and a WIM took part from various part of the country. Adhiyaman College Engineering, Hosur and Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering, Pollachi have come forward to hold the National Schools Chess Championships and the National Team Chess Championships within a gap of ten days. Tata Steel 2023 R10: Gukesh bests Praggnanandhaa, Carlsen makes a comeback

D Gukesh continues his great momentum at 85th Tata Steel Chess Masters 2023. He defeated Praggnanandhaa in an exciting game. Almost a year later, Gukesh avenged his last Classical loss against Pragg at Reykjavik Open 2022. The 16-year-old announced his intentions of playing for only one result with 10.Rg1, 11.g4. The dynamic play certainly upstaged his opponent who generally prefers to play solid chess. Magnus Carlsen defeated Parham Maghsoodloo to reduce the gap 6/10 with Nodirbek Abdusattorov 7/10. Anish Giri drew with Wesley So to remain at sole second place 6.5/10. AICFB National Juniors: Sam Peniel dominates, Tanish seizes the moment, John wins hearts

P Sam Peniel (1364, TN) won the National Junior Chess Championships for the Visually Challenged! Sam scored 6.5/7, and his only draw of the tournament was against John Harris Sujin.  Tanish Waghmare (MAH) took the 2nd position with 6/7, and John Harris Sujin came in 3rd with 5.5/7. Sam Peniel and Tanish Waghmare will now represent India in the forthcoming IBCA World Junior Chess Championship which will be held in Spain. Tata Steel 2023 R9: Gukesh aces the Magnus Carlsen test, Praggnanandhaa draws with Caruana

D Gukesh won the individual Gold medal at the 44th Chess Olympiad, ahead of Abdusattorov and Carlsen. The 16-year-old won it for a reason and the world no.1 did not forget about it. Wesley So reminded the world about the same after his seventh round win over him. Even though Gukesh's score was a meager 2.5/8 until the ninth round, he is always a force to be reckoned with. Carlsen tested the teenager in various ways, but the boy won't budge. The game ended in a draw and he got to analyze with the three-time world triple crown champion for 50 minutes. Gukesh just silenced the doubters who wondered how the boy will fare against the world no.1 in a classical game in his first super tournament. Harshit Singh wins VKV Rating Open 2023

16-year-old Harshit Singh and GM Himanshu Sharma scored a perfect 6/6 each. The teenager from Uttar Pradesh, Harshit won VKV Rating Open 2023 due to better tie-breaks, the top seed was placed second. Ten players scored 5/6 each. Out of them, Sunny Bedi secured the third place overall. Sahil Bheron was awarded third prize in the Open category. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹15000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. Generally we see a classical rating tournament to have anything between eight and eleven rounds. Even though the eighth round of Tata Steel Chess 2023 concluded, a lot of firsts happened. Jorden van Foreest, Richard Rapport, D Gukesh and Adhiban scored their first wins of the event. Arjun Erigaisi and Luis Paulo Supi suffered their second consecutive loss. Magnus Carlsen won his second game in-a-row. Nodirbek Abdusattorov drew his game against Levon Aronian to stay a full point ahead 6/8. Giri and So continue their chase at 5/8 each. In the Challengers, Donchenko maintained his sole lead by 6/8. Mustafa Yilmaz beeat Javokhir Sindarov to move to shared second place with Velimir Ivic 5.5/8. Today is a rest day. Top seed of the tournament, IM Himal Gusain scored a staggering 9.5/10 to win Surya Trophy Rating Open 2022. He finished a full point ahead of the field. 10-year-old Aansh Nandan Nerurkar scored 8.5/10 to finish second. His sole loss of the event was against the eventual champion, Himal. IM Rahul Sangma scored 8/10 to finish third. None of the podium finishers needed tie-break to determine their final rank. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500000. As a fan of the sport, one could not have asked for a better day at the Tata Steel Chess 2023. The seventh round witnessed the maximum number of decisive games in both Masters and Challengers section. Nodirbek Abdusattorov defeated Arjun Erigaisi to increase his sole lead by a full point 5.5/7. R Praggnanandhaa and Wesley So won their respective games to join Anish Giri and Fabiano Caruana at 4.5/7 each. Magnus Carlsen got back to winning ways by defeating Richard Rapport. 14-year-old FM Sreyas Payyappat scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win Johnson Pallippatt Memorial 7th Don Bosco Rating Open 2022. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Despite missing the first round, the top seed of the tournament went on to win the next eight games to win the tournament. Marthandan K U and Jake Shanty scored 7.5/9 each and remained undefeated. They were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹301000.
