Welcome back to the “Strategic Mastery” series, which was brought to you by the collaboration of ChessNeurons and ChessBase India. In this episode, Grandmaster Ankit Rajpara will lead you through the next step in your chess journey. Our goal is to deepen your positional and strategic understanding through a series of meticulously crafted puzzles and clear, insightful explanations. This time, we’ll reveal the solutions to the five puzzles from Episode 10 in which we discussed all the positions from the Indian Team’s Games at Chess Olympiad 2024. Following that, we’ll present five new positional puzzles, each more challenging than the last, to further sharpen your strategic thinking. All these puzzles are from the games of World Championship Challenger Grandmaster Gukesh Dommaraju.

Two ChessBase India Training Camps to Be Held in October: Registration Starts Now!

If you have been waiting for the ChessBase India Training Camp, here's some good news! In the upcoming month of October, two training camps are going to be held. The 5th edition of the ChessBase India Training Camp will take place from October 8th to 13th, while the 6th camp will be held from October 19th to 23rd. As always, the camp will be limited to only 12 players, and it will be based entirely on a 'first-come, first-served' registration policy. Additionally, 2 spots in these camps are reserved for players from Madhya Pradesh. During the camp, participants will undergo about 8 hours of training per day, amounting to nearly 40 hours of rigorous training throughout the camp. At the end of the camp, participants will be awarded certificates. Upon the conclusion of the first camp, players will have the opportunity to participate in the Khelo Chess India Rapid and Blitz Tournament, while after the second camp, they will get to play in the Khelo Chess India Blitz Tournament. FIDE Instructor Niklesh Jain and Colombia’s former national champion, Woman International Master Angela Franco, will be the trainers for the camp. To register, read the full article.

Chaitanya V Gaonkar convincingly clinches 6th Marvel Below 1800 Rating 2024

Chaitanya V Gaonkar scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 6th Marvel Below 1800 Rating Tournament 2024. The teenager finished a half point ahead of the field and gained 126 Elo rating points. Seetasagar Konaparthi and Shubham Kumar scored 8/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹600000. The top three prizes were ₹75000, ₹50000 and ₹40000 along with a trophy each respectively. The three-day rating tournament was organized by Rajashekar Bhagavatula from 3rd to 5th September 2024 at Puchalapalli Leela Sundarayya Function Hall in Hyderabad, Telangana. Akshay Borgaonkar dominates 26th Tamil Nadu IM-norm CC 2024, Harshit Pawar second and Harshad third

FM Akshay Borgaonkar scored an unbeaten 7/9 to win 26th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2024. He finished a full point ahead of the competition and also scored an IM-norm. FM Harshit Pawar scored sole 6/9 to secure second place. Harshit's sole loss of the event was against the eventual champion, Akshay. IM-elect FM S Harshad scored 5.5/9 to finish third. His sole loss was against Harshit. The seven-day ten-player round-robin tournament was organized by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association at Hotel Alankar Grande in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu from 30th August to 5th September 2024. IM Jubin Jimmy and WCM Aaradhya Das win 5th Pursue Your Chess Scholarship of Rs.1,50,000

The longest Scholarship under the HelpChess Foundation ‘Pursue Your Chess’ is back this year. This 5th edition of the Scholarship has the amount of Rs. 1,50,000. The person behind this scholarship, Ashwin Subramanian is now a well-known person in the chess world. He has provided financial and technical support to many chess players. Every year, he has increased the Scholarship amount by Rs. 25,000 showing his commitment to nurturing Indian talents. The winners of this year’s Scholarship are IM Jubin Jimmy from Kerala and WCM Aaradhya Das from Tripura. Out of the total amount, Jubin Jimmy won Rs. 1,25,000 and Aaradhya Das won Rs. 25,000.

Ian Nepomniachtchi tops 10th Gashimov Memorial 2024 Rapid

Ian Nepomniachtchi finished at the top of the standings at 10th Vugar Gashimov Memorial 2024 Rapid. He started the day with a win over Richard Rapport (HUN), then suffered his sole loss of the event against Rauf Mamedov (AZE). He bounced back in the next round with a win against Aravindh Chithambaram. The former World Championship Challenger drew with Aydin Suleymanli (AZE) to finish with 10/14, a full point ahead of Shakhriyar Mamedyarov. Aravindh Chithambaram had a better second day as he drew with Mamedyarov and defeated Suleymanli. He finished the Rapid event scoring 5/14. Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) made a strong comeback by winning the last two games to finish with 8/14. Anwesh Upadhyaya wins 5th Marvel Rating Open 2024

Dr. IM Anwesh Upadhyaya, GM Saptarshi RoyChowdhury and Karan J P scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 each at 5th Marvel Rating Open 2024. Anwesh won the tournament on tie-breaks, Saptarshi and Karan were placed second and third respectively. Anwesh drew with the only GM taking part in this event, Saptarshi to become the champion. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹600000. The top three prizes were ₹75000, ₹50000 and ₹40000 along with a trophy each respectively. The five-day rating tournament was organized by Marvel Chess Academy from 29th August to 2nd September 2024 at Puchalapalli Leela Sundarayya Function Hall in Hyderabad, Telangana. 10th Gashimov Memorial 2024 Rapid R1-3: Aravindh Chithambaram bests Rauf Mamedov after a rough start

Aravindh Chithambaram scored his first win at 10th Vugar Gashimov Memorial 2024 against Rauf Mamedov (AZE). After losing two games in-a-row against Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) and Richard Rapport (HUN), Aravindh won a sharp game in Round 3. He put up a good fight against the Hungary no.1. Ian Nepomniachtchi and Rapport are the two early leaders scoring 5/6 each. Last year's Rapid event winner, Aydin Suleymanli (AZE) also remained undefeated on the first day, scoring 1.5/3. The only player to have competed in all ten editions of this event, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (AZE) missed two wins in his first two games against Nepomniachtchi and Rauf. Aarav A and Pavithra R V are 36th Tamil Nadu State Under-11 Open and Girls 2024 Champions

CM Aarav A scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 36th Tamil Nadu State Under-11 Open Rating Championship 2024. He edged past Nijesh R on tie-breaks to become the champion, Nijesh had to settle for second place. Vishruth B was placed third due to better tie-break score. Aarav drew with both of them. In the Girls event, Pavithra R V scored a perfect 9/9 to dominate the field. She finished a full point ahead of the field. Deepthaashri Ravi Ganesh scored 8/9 to secure second place. Her sole loss was against the eventual champion. Pooja Shree R scored 7.5/9 to finish third. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹50000. The top three prizes were ₹5000 + trophy, ₹3500 + trophy and ₹3000 each. The five-day nine round rating tournament was organized by Salem District Chess Association, co-sponsored by Young Indians at R P Sarathy Institute of Technology in Salem, Tamil Nadu from 28th 18th August to 1st September 2024. PM Modi congratulates Indian team on their golden performance at the 45th Chess Olympiad

India made headlines by winning gold medals at the 45th Chess Olympiad held in Budapest, Hungary. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the Indian Champions at his residence in New Delhi on 25th September 2024. He personally congratulated all the players and the coaches for their hard work and dedication to achieve this success. Not only this, but the players, and their team received cash prizes. SAI awarded Rs. 20,00,000 to each player, Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin awarded Rs. 25,00,000 to Gukesh, Praggnanandhaa, and Vaishali, Rs. 15,00,000 to Srinath, AICF awarded Rs. 25 Lakhs to each player, Velammal Nexus awarded Rs. 10 Lakhs to Gukesh, Praggnanandhaa, and Vaishali and Rs. 5 Lakhs to Srinath and Arjun Kalyan, Telangana CM A Revanth Reddy awarded Rs. 25 Lakhs to Harika and Arjun, MCA awarded Rs. 3 Lakhs to Vidit and Divya each and 1.5 Lakhs to Abhijit and Sankalp each, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray felicitated Vidit Gujrathi and Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde awarded Rs. 1 Crore to Vidit and Divya each and Rs. 10 Lakhs to Abhijit and Sankalp each. Aravindh Chithambaram will make his super GM tournament debut at 10th Gashimov Memorial 2024

India's first and only triple crown champion, Aravindh Chithambaram will make his super GM tournament debut at 10th Gashimov Memorial 2024. He was the last minute replacement for the reigning champion and the newly crowned 45th Chess Olympiad Gold medalist - Vidit Gujrathi. The remaining seven players are - Ian Nepomniachtchi, Vladislav Artemiev, Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB), Richard Rapport (HUN), Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (AZE), Rauf Mamedov (AZE) and Aydin Suleymanli (AZE). Seven rounds of Rapid and 14 rounds Blitz games will be played from 26th to 28th September 2024. The winner will be decided based on the combined score of Rapid and Blitz events. Three rounds of Rapid games will start tomorrow from 3:30 p.m. local time, 5 p.m. IST in Shusha, Azerbaijan. Vugar Gashimov Chess Foundation, Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan Chess Federation are organizing the tenth edition to honor the memory of Vugar Gashimov. Aaryan Varshney wins 2nd SDCA Blitz Rating Open 2024

IM Aaryan Varshney and Dhyey Agarwal scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 each at 2nd SDCA Blitz Rating Open 2024. Aaryan won the tournament on tie-breaks, Dhyey was placed second. Six players - IM Aaditya Dhingra, CM Aansh Nandan Nerurkar, Gopal Krishna Maheshwari, FM Jeet Jain, Arvind Iyer and Kartavya Anadkat scored 7/8 each. They secured third to eighth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The top three finishers remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹25000, ₹15000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each respectively. The one-day blitz rating tournament was organized by Surat District Chess Association on 25th August 2024 at P R Khatiwala Sankul in Surat, Gujarat.
