Julia Salamon and Zsiltzova Lubov lead the 12th IBCA World Junior and Women's Chess Championship

The 12th edition of the World Junior and Women's Chess Championship for the Blind and Visually Impaired started on the 27th of September 2024. The tournament is taking place at the Chancery Pavilion Hotel, Residency Road, Bengaluru. It is a nine-round Swiss tournament with a time control of 90 minutes + 30 Seconds increment from the first move. There are a total of 32 participants in the tournament with 12 in the Junior and 20 in the Women's section. Apart from India, there are many players from different countries like Ukraine, Poland, the USA, and many others participating in the event. With only one round left, Julia Salamon is leading the Junior's section with 7 points and Zsiltzova Lubov is leading the Women's section with a full 8 points. Saptarshi RoyChowdhury wins 2nd Late Shri Vasudev V Dempo Memorial Rating Open 2024

GM Saptarshi RoyChowdhury and Rupam Mukherjee scored 7.5/9 each at 2nd Late Shri Vasudev V Dempo Memorial Rating Open 2024. Saptarshi won the tournament on tie-breaks, Rupam was placed second. IM Abhishek Kelkar edged past six more players on tie-breaks to finish third scoring 7/9. Saptarshi remained undefeated. Rupam's sole loss was against the eventual champion, Saptarshi in Round 6. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹380000. The top three prizes were ₹53000, ₹37000 and ₹27000 along with a trophy each. The six-day nine round rating tournament was organized by Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association from 17th to 22nd September 2024 at Institute Menezes Braganza Hall in Panaji, Goa. Tech Mahindra GCL Day 3: Firouzja outplays Nakamura and Anand, Triveni Continental Kings move up

Alireza Firouzja defeated Hikaru Nakamura and Vishy Anand in consecutive games. He outplayed both of them. A win against World no.1, 2 and a legend is certainly going to skyrocket Firouzja's confidence. Triveni Continental Kings lost their second match of the day after Parham Maghsoodloo and IM Nurgyul Salimova empowered their team, Ganges Grandmasters to their first victory, despite their 'Icon' board Anand losing to Firouzja. It was the closest match of the tournament so far in terms of game points, 8-10. PBG Alaskan Knights maintain their sole lead by winning all four games in-a-row. Sriram Adarsh Uppala convincingly wins 28th Tamil Nadu IM-norm CC 2024, Dhruva second and Aakash third

Sriram Adarsh Uppala scored 7/9 to win 28th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit 2024. He finished a full point ahead of the rest and also secured his second IM-norm in the process. Dhruva Thota and CM Aakash G scored 6/9 each. They were placed second and third respectively as Dhruva defeated Aakash in the final round and spoiled his norm chances. Sriram suffered his sole loss of the event against Aakash in Round 2. The seven-day ten-player round-robin tournament was organized by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association at Hotel Alankar Grande in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu from 15th to 21st September 2024. Tech Mahindra GCL Day 2: Nihal Sarin shines, ensures Alaskan Knights' hat-trick, Firouzja flags Magnus

PBG Alaskan Knights won both of their games on the second day of Tech Mahindra Global Chess League 2024. First they defeated American Gambits 3-0 (14-2). Then they won against upGrad Mumba Masters 3-0 (8-5). Nihal Sarin was undoubtedly the star player of the day as he not only won both game but also scored a crucial victory ensuring a hat-tric k, both for himself and the team. Magnus Carlsen lost a winning game against Alireza Firouzja as the latter flagged him. Some might call it 'dirty flagging'. The world no.7 just executed the rules to his advantage and won. The event is made for television broadcast and that certainly makes for good tv moment. But does that make Firouzja stronger rapid player than Carlsen? A total of 178 prizes including 109 cash and 69 trophies are up for grabs. Entry is FREE for GM, IM, WGM, WIM and players rated above 2300. PBG Alaskan Knights made a fantastic start by defeating the defending champions, Triveni Continental Kings on the first day of Tech Mahindra Global Chess League 2024. The inaugural edition's bottom finisher made a roaring start by registering a 3-0 (15-3) win. Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and Nihal Sarin ensured the team's success. Tech Mahindra Global Chess League started with a gala opening ceremony at Merchant Taylors' Hall in London, England. The opening ceremony had a lot of things happen - celebrated chess journalist, Peter Doggers revealed his new book - The Chess Revolution, Arjun Erigaisi and Anish Giri answered a few questions with him, Sameer Pathak, CEO of TMGCL announced that ChessBase India youtube channel reached 2 Million subscribers and congratulated the team for the contribution, special awards were given to the teams for making good moves both on and off the board, teams posed with the winner's trophy and an acapella performance to conclude the evening. Tech Mahindra Global Chess League 2024 teams and squads unveiled

Tech Mahindra Global Chess League starts tomorrow in London, England. It will be a six-team double round-robin event. Six members will play in each team comprising an icon, two male, two female and one prodigy (Under-21) in each round. Vishy Anand, Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, Alireza Firouzja, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Anish Giri are the 'Icons' who will take part in this event. There will be various 'Superstars' and six 'Prodigies' who will also be part of the second edition. Triveni Continental Kings are the defending champions. The remaining five teams are - Alpine SG Pipers, PBG Alaskan Knights, American Gambits, Upgrad Mumba Masters and Ganges Grandmasters. The Indians apart from Anand taking part in this event are - Arjun Erigaisi, R Praggnanandhaa, Vidit Gujrathi, Nihal Sarin, Raunak Sadhwani, Koneru Humpy, Harika Dronavalli and R Vaishali. Evgeniy Podolchenko wins 27th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit 2024, Sriram Adarh Uppala third

GM Evgeniy Podolchenko scored an unbeaten 6.5/9 to win 27th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. GM Manik Mikulas (SVK) scored sole 6/9 to finish second. Sriram Adarsh Uppala and GM Tair Vahidov (UZB) scored 5.5/9 each. Sriram was placed third due to better tie-break score. Singapore Chess Federation in association with FIDE are organizing a 'High Performance Masterclass' training camp from 25th November to 28th November. This four-day camp will provide training from world-class trainers like GM Jacob Aagaard, GM Thomas Luther, and GM Pavel Eljanov. Participants will also get an opportunity to compete in the Singapore International Open tournament which will take place from 29th November to 5th December. SCF will provide twin-sharing accommodation with meals to the participants as well as cover the tournament entry fees. Two Indians in World Top five for the first time ever - Arjun Erigaisi World #3, Gukesh #5

India's historic performance at the 45th Chess Olympiad 2024 caused a lot of huge changes in the rating list. Arjun Erigaisi is now World no.3. He gained 19.2 Elo rating points for his stellar performance on Board no.3. The World Championship Challenger, D Gukesh is now World no.5. He gained a whopping 30.1 Elo rating points. Both Arjun and Gukesh won double Gold. Vidit Gujrathi gained 6 rating points, Harikrishna 2.1. Currently, there are four Indians in top 12, five in top 22, six in top 33, seven in top 42 and eleven in top 98. Among the Women, four Indians maintain their top 15 places. IM Divya Deshmukh moved up to World no.11 and India no.2 among women after her fantastic double Gold medal winning run at the Olympiad. She crossed 2500 and her rating is now 2501. Garv Gaur wins SARK India - CPA Rajasthan Rapid Rating Open 2024

FM Garv Gaur, IM Aaditya Dhingra and Kartavya Anadkat scored 8/9 each at SARK India - CPA Rajasthan Rapid Rating Open 2024. Garv won the tournament on tie-breaks, Aaditya and Kartavya were placed second and third respectively. The top two finishers remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000 + trophies. The top three prizes were ₹41100, ₹25000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each respectively. The two-day rating tournament was organized by Chess Parents Association Rajasthan on 7th and 8th September 2024 at S M S Indoor Stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
