Prraneeth Vuppala convincingly clinches 6th Roma Citta Aperta Master 2025

GM Prraneeth Vuppala scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 6th Roma Citta Aperta Master (1800-2100) 2025. He finished a full point ahead of the rest. IM Ilia Martinovici (MDA) and IM Daniel Kopylov (GER) scored 7/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively. Shourya Bagdia scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win the Open B (1600-1800). He also finished a half point ahead of the competition. Eman P D scored 8/9 to secure second place. The total prize fund of the festival was €16430. The top three prizes in Master were €1200, €900 and €700 each, Open B - €500, €400 and €300. For Rapid and Blitz - €300 each was the first prize. Photos: Official site

GM Prraneeth Vuppala was the sole leader 7.5/8, heading into the final round of the Master section. He was a full point ahead of IM Ilia Martinovici (MDA). A draw would have sufficed for him to become a clear champion and that's exactly what he did against Ilia. Prraneeth won the tournament, Ilia finished second. FM Mikkel Manosri Jacobsen (DEN) lost to IM Daniel Kopylov (GER) and the latter finished third. IM Bala Chandra Prasad Dhulipalla and IM Sidhant Mohapatra are the only two other Indians to make a top ten finish. They scored 6.5/9 each to finish at fifth and seventh place according to tie-breaks.

In Open B (1800-2100), Artyom Stepanyan (ARM) lost to the sole leader, Shourya Bagdia in the final round. Shourya became champion. Roman-Valeriu Brasoveanu (ROU) suffered defeat against Eman P D who finished second.
