FWCM 03: A lively Berlin Endgame!

After two rather uneventful draws, the fans got their money's worth when Magnus Carlsen created winning chances from an equal position and put the challenger in grave difficulty. Sergey Karjakin stayed trued to his tag of being a tenacious defender and did not give up right until the very end. Magnus missed a few winning chances and the game ended in a draw. We have the entire game annotated along with critical positions and pictures from the venue.

Anand is the Rapid King, crushes the field

The Champions Showdown entered the rapid leg on the fourth day of play. Viswanathan Anand played a faulty combination to beat Hikaru Nakamura after the latter missed the riposte. He then beat Topalov twice to take the lead after the classical and rapid games. Garry Kasparov was at his nostalgic best as he commentated on the games. An illustrated report.

Sasi, Hari and Sethu at the European Club Cup 2016

The European Club Cup is one of the most prestigious and fiercely contested team event in the world of chess. The best part about it is that players all over the world are welcome to play in it. Three Indian players went to Novi Sad, Serbia: Harikrishna and Sasikiran for team Ave Navy Bor and Sethuraman for Team Itaka. Sasi played exceedingly well and won the silver medal on board six for his 5.5/6 performance. We have pictures, games, analysis and more.

FWCM 02: Carlsen's mysterious rook moves!

Karjakin opened the game with 1.e4. Once that move was made we knew for sure that it would be a theoretical battle. Carlsen came excellently prepared. He had done his homework and improved on his game Topalov-Carlsen from Paris Grand Chess Tour. Karjakin was unable to put any pressure on the World Champion and the same story as in round one repeated - White didn't have anything up his sleeve and Black equalized with ease. Magnus Carlsen played the Trompowsky (1.d4 Nf6 2.Bg5) in the first round of the World Championship 2016 against Magnus Carlsen. Many experts felt that there was definitely some connection between Carlsen's choice of the opening and the newly elected US President. While the first few moves were fun, the excitement didn't last long. With meticulous precision Sergey Karjakin equalized the game and gave his opponent no chances. Women's Premier 06: Padmini continues to lead but Viji close on the heels

Padmini won a well-played technical game where she nursed her advantage from the opening to victory. Viji was worse and fighting for dear life, but she turned the tables after some sub-par moves by Mary Ann Gomes to win as well. Padmini leads the event with 5.0/6 while Viji is close on the heels with 4.5/6. Nihal Sarin chose Padmini's clinical performance as the game of the day and analyzed it for the readers.
