17/05/2017 - Nearly 852 players flocked into the Indian Council for Cultural Relations in Kolkata to play in the 12th edition of Chess for Youth 2017 which was held from 6th to 10th May. 24/07/2016 - The Suresh Agrawal Memorial 30th National Under-11 Chess Championships took place at Raipur, Chattisgarh. Around 220 youngsters from across the country in the tournament. The medal winners in this event secure a place in the Asian and World championship in the under-12 category. The Open tourney was surprisingly won by the seventeenth seed Manish Anto Cristiano of Tamil Nadu. The Girl's section was ýet-another-national-title' for Divya Deshmukh. An illustrated report.
One of the strongest classical tournaments in the chess calendar is back with its 9th edition! The Sharjah Masters 2026 is set to take place from 20th April to 30th April 2026. The last edition was won by Anish Giri (Category A), Mayank Chakraborty (Category B) and Shubham Shukla (Category C). Once again, the event will feature the same exciting categories. While the players' list is yet to be announced, we can expect some of the world’s best players fighting for the title. The total prize fund for the event is $100,000 (around Rs. 90 Lakh). It will be a nine-round Classical Swiss tournament with a time control of 90 minutes+30 seconds increment per move for the whole game. The 3rd edition of the Silver Jubilee Queenstar Open International Rating Chess Championship 2025 is back. It will take place from 13th August to 17th August in Gampaha, Sri Lanka. It boasts a total prize fund of LKR 2.5 million (approx. Rs. 7,13,645). There is no entry fee for FIDE-titled players. However, there are special conditions for foreign players rated higher than 2400. The event will feature both Classical and Blitz sections. The Blitz Champion will receive Rs. 60,000, while the Female Blitz Champion will be awarded Rs. 25,000. In the Classical section, the overall winner will take home Rs. 2,50,000, and the Female Champion will receive Rs. 1,00,000. Check out the article to learn how you can participate.
