New Delhi GP Round 5: Humpy bounces back, Vaishali draws

Koneru Humpy made a strong comeback in Round 5 after suffering a loss in the previous round. She showed why she is the World no.2 when she scored an emphatic victory against the Georgia no.1 Nana Dzagnidze. IM Vaishali did not hesitate to sacrifice an exchange when the position demanded against GM Nino Batsiashvili. She recovered it eventually and the game ended in a draw. WGM Zhu Jiner showed her tactical awareness when her opponent GM Kateryna Lagno was caught off guard as she increased the vulnerability of her own king. Central India's Biggest Open, 1st Indore International GM Open 2023

The National Under-9 Championships took place in Indore in December 2022. This time, Indore is back with an even bigger event, the biggest event in central India - the 1st Indore International GM Open 2023! This 10-round swiss tournament will be held from 1st-8th April at The Emerald Heights International School. The total prize fund of this event is Rs. 33 Lakh! Along with this GM event, there's also an Under-1800 event taking place from 3rd-6th April - the IDA Cup International Open Chess Tournament. 8 exciting days of top-level chess awaits! SRM IST Chennai dominates All India Inter University Men Chess Championship 2023 with a perfect 10/10

The defending champion SRM IST, Chennai scored 100% to win All India Inter University Men Chess Championship 2023. They finished two points ahead of the runner-up Savitribai Phule Pune University 8/10. Two teams - Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University and University of Calcutta scored 7/10 each. The former secured third place according to tie-breaks. The winning team comprised - IM FT Harikrishnan A Ra, GM Arjun Kalyan, IM Ajay Karthikeyan, reigning National Senior Open champion GM Karthik Venkataraman, current Asian Junior Open champion IM Harshavardhan G B and Srihari L. New Delhi GP Round 4: No Punches Pulled

GM Aleksandra Goryachkina ended IM Bibisara Assaubayeva's winning streak in the fourth roun of New Delhi GP 2023. The former Women's World Championship Challenger defeated the reigning two-time World Blitz Women champion to gain sole lead 3/4. It was a tough round for the Indians as IM Vaishali and GM Humpy both lost their respective games against GM Kateryna Lagno and WGM Zhu Jiner. The Chinese played some fantastic chess to beat Humpy. Aravindh Chithambaram on the verge of winning 20th Delhi GM Open 2023

GM Aravindh Chithambaram showed his class against GM Volodar Murzin in the penultimate round of 20th Delhi GM Open 2023. He showcased his fantastic positional understanding to dethrone the teenager from the leader's position. India's first triple crown, reigning three-time National Rapid and Blitz champion, Aravindh is now the sole leader heading into the final round 8.5/9. Since his tie-break score is not the best, he must beat GM Luka Paichadze to become a clear champion, whereas a draw would allow any of the five foreigners to catch up and maybe surpass him. Ram Vishal Parab wins the ChessBase India Chess Club tournament for the first time

The 6th edition of the ChessBase India Chess Club tournament was held on 25th March 2023, at the Phoenix Marketcity Mall, Kurla! Ram Vishal Parab played some fantastic chess to score a perfect 7/7, finishing first by a full point. Saumil Nair and Jeet Shah scored 6/7, getting the 2nd and 3rd spots respectively. In this session, we introduced two new things: a membership system in the ChessBase India Chess Club, and a special "Doctor Chess" session by IM Sagar Shah! New Delhi GP Round 3: Bibisara wins two in-a-row

IM Bibisara Assaubayeva has won her second consecutive game at New Delhi GP 2023. The reigning two-time World Blitz Women champion defeated GM Nino Batsiashvili in Round 3. The Georgian gave up an exchange in the endgame to get rid of her opponent's outside passed pawn. In the next move, she weakened her own king instead of trying to create some pressure on her opponent's relatively vulnerable king. The teenager is the only player to have scored wins so far at this event. Humpy and Harika drew with Kateryna Lagno and Nana Dzagnidze respectively. 20th Delhi GM Open 2023 R8: Aravindh is back in the lead

The reigning three-time National Rapid and Blitz champion, GM Aravindh Chithambaram got himself back in the lead. He defeated GM Marat Dzhumaev when the Uzbek's positional exchange sacrifice did not work out the way he wanted. GM Michal Krasenkow drew with GM Volodar Murzin which means both Volodar and Aravindh are at 7.5/8 each. They will inevitably face each other in the penultimate round. IM Neelash Saha drew with GM Luka Paichadze and the current National Sub-Junior champion, S Aswath held the strong GM Lalit Rohit to a draw. Over a dozen players are trailing the tournament leaders by a half point at 7/8 each. Ilamparthi AR is a huge talent in Indian Chess, and the past year has been nothing short of amazing for the youngster. The Chennai boy became the World Under-14 Champion, he won Gold in Asian Under-18 Rapid 2022 in October and won his first Rapid Rating Open tournament in November 2022. In 2023, he became India's latest International Master! Ilamparthi's most recent success came at the WR Chess Masters Juniors event, where he won with a perfect score. New Delhi GP Round 2: Vaishali loses against Bibisara

The reigning two-time World Blitz Women's champion, IM Bibisara Assaubayeva scored the first win of New Delhi GP 2023. The Kazakhstan teenager got the better of IM Vaishali in the endgame when the latter misplaced her knight. It was a difficult endgame to defend in the first place. Meanwhile, GM Harika Dronvalli was held to a draw by WGM Zhu Jiner in a well contested draw. The remaining two games between Goryachkina-Dzagnidze and Polina-Humpy ended in draws in 20 moves or less. 20th Delhi GM Open 2023 R7: Neelash Saha holds Aravindh Chithambaram to a draw

Generally a player is not happy to get two consecutive black pieces especially against stronger opponents. After defeating GM Boris Savchenko in the sixth round, IM Neelash Saha faced GM Aravindh Chithambaram, once again with the same color. It was a solid draw after 30 moves in Round 7 of 20th Delhi GM Open 2023. IM Viani Antonio Dcunha made a minute mistake in the endgame against GM Volodar Murzin which seemed to have headed towards a draw. Thus, Volodar gained sole lead 7/7. Aravindh and Neelash are the only two Indians in pursuit at 6.5/7 each. New Delhi GP Round 1: Elisabeth withdraws, two exciting endgames

The first round of FIDE New Delhi GP 2023 witnessed four games. IM Vaishali got a walkover as the Germany no.1 Elisabeth Paehtz decided to withdraw from the event. Thus, the total withdraw count from this event is now four. First the Muzychuk sisters - Anna and Mariya, then Zhansaya Abdumalik and now Paehtz. The games between Humpy and Harika, Polina and Lagno, were relatively quiet draws. WGM Zhu Jiner had a great opportunity to beat GM Aleksandraw Goryachkina. The All-Georgian battle between GM Nana Dzagnidze and GM Nino Batsiashvili was an exciting back and forth battle where the latter repeated moves in a winning endgame.
