Diya Chowdhury wins Smart Girls Rating Open 2023 Raigarh

Top seed of the tournament, Diya Chowdhury scored 8/9 to win Smart Girls Rating Open 2023 Raigarh. Ishika Madke and Pari Tiwari scored 7.5/9 each to secure second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Diya defeated four out of the top six finishers. She suffered her only loss against the eventual second runner-up finisher, Pari. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹50000. The top three prizes were ₹11000, ₹7000 and ₹5000 along with a trophy each respectively. This was Diya's second rating tournament triumph in consecutive months. Smart Girls rating tournament is just like Chess for Everyone Rating tournament, where the entry fee is low. Gaurang Bagwe clinches 1st MLA Chasak Rapid Rating Open 2023 convincingly

14-year-old CM Gaurang Bagwe scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st MLA Chasak Rapid Rating Open 2023. The Commonwealth 2022 U14 Gold and U20 Bronze medalist, finished a half point ahead of the field. Five players - GM Laxman R R, Mandar Pradip Lad, Anirudhha Potawad, Pushkar Dere and Arnav Kherdekar scored 8/9 each. Laxman and Mandar were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. Gaurang drew with Laxman in the final round to become champion. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were Honda Activa, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each respectively. During the FIDE World Chess Championship, a lot of side events take place parallelly all over the world. The reason is to capitalize interest increased in chess and draw attention to other players and events all over the world. A unique match was taking place for days between ISS (International Space Station) and Mission Control. The first game wrapped up on Tuesday 16th April 2023. NASA shared the info and the game yesterday on their reddit account and twitter. They have also mentioned that second game is underway. So how does the game take place and what happened in the game? Kaustuv Kundu dominates 1st All India Rating Open 2023 with a perfect 9/9

Kaustuv Kundu scored a perfect 9/9 to win 1st All India Rating Open 2023. He finished a staggering 1.5 points ahead of the field. Anurag Jaiswal scored sole 7.5/9 to secure second place. Eight players scored 7/9 each. Out of them, Arpan Das was placed third as he had the best tie-break score. Both Kaustuv and Anurag remained undefeated. Kaustuv got the better of the eventual second runner-up in the penultimate round. Despite needing just a draw to become a clear champion, the sole IM-norm holder wanted a perfect finish and won against Bishal Basak in the final round. Simultaneous Chess Exhibition with Grandmaster S L Narayanan

On Sunday 16th April, Eight Times Eight Chess Academy in association with Club FM 94.3, organized Chessathon 2023 where GM S L Narayanan played a simultaneous exhibition match at LuLu Mall in Kochi, Kerala. From age of five to 60 years, players varied in different range of age groups faced the second GM of Kerala. 12-year-old Joseph Tom was the sole player to beat the 41st GM of India. 17-year-old Hari R Chandran managed to share the point with Narayanan. Shrihari Venkatesh Deshpande triumphs at 9th ICA Below 1600 Rating Tournament 2023

Shrihari Venkatesh Deshpande, Srivardhan Reddy Devareddy and Aarav Saish Amonkar scored an unbeaten 8/9 each at 9th ICA Below 1600 Rating Tournament 2023.Shrihari won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Srivardhan and Aarav were adjudged second and third. The tournament leaders, Shrihari and Srivardhan drew against each other in the final round to finish first and second respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹699000. The top three prizes were ₹60000 + trophy, ₹50000 and ₹40000 each respectively. This was the 14-year-old teenager Shrihari's first rating tournament victory. Maksim Chigaev wins Bucharest Grand Prix Rapid 2023, Harikrishna third

Maksim, Romania no.2 Bogdan-Daniel Deac and Pentala Harikrishna all three scored 8.5/10 each at Bucharest Grand Prix Rapid 2023. They were placed first, second and third according to tie-breaks. While, Maksim and Bogdan-Daniel remained undefeated, Harikrishna suffered his only loss against Raunak Sadhwani. Raunak scored 8/10 to finish fifth. His sole defeat was against the eventual champion. The total prize fund of the tournament was 150000 Lei. The top three prizes were 25000, 15000 and 10000 Lei along with a trophy each respectively. GM-elect IM Prraneeth Vuppala scored an impressive 8/10 to finish tenth. This was the first of five tournaments in the Romania Grand Prix. The next leg will take place from 16th to 22nd July 2023. Ding Liren becomes the 17th World Chess Champion scoring a thriller in the Playoff

Ding Liren has become the 17th World Chess Champion. One must not forget that he was a FIDE World Cup 2017 runner-up, won Olympiad team Gold and individual Bronze and Gold medals for China in 2014 and 2018 respectively. The World no.3 also won team Gold and individual Silver at World Team Championship in 2015. He became a runner-up at the FIDE World Cup 2019, for the second consecutive edition. The new world champion became the first Chinese man to win the crown, he was also the first Chinese player to qualify to the Candidates back in 2017. After Karjakin was banned by FIDE, Ding Liren got an opportunity to qualify for the Candidates. He managed to achieve it, finished second in Candidates. He already had a long impressive list of accolades. The most important thing is - a person can be brave, quiet, calm, composed, confident and let his moves do all the talking. Breaking News: Ding Liren is the new World Chess Champion

Ding Liren defeated Ian Nepomniachtchi in the fourth Rapid tie-break game to become the new world champion. He is the 17th world chess champion in history and the first Chinese man to do so. Currently, both Open and Women world champions are from the same country, China. After three consecutive draws in the Rapid, the World no.3 pushed hard for a win as it was the last Rapid game. One more draw and it would have been down to Blitz. He mentioned on the previous day that he does not like playing Blitz. Anabil Goswami dominates Chess for Everyone Rating Open in Tripura

Anabil Goswami scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win AICF's Chess for Everyone Rating Open 2023 in Tripura. He finished the tournament a half point ahead of the field and drew with the remaining podium finishers in the last two rounds. Prasenjit Namasudra made sole 7.5/9 to finish second. Four players - Debankur Banerjee, Bapu Debbarma, Nalinakhya Kashyap and the top seed of the event, Avigyan Ghosh scored 7/9. Debankur was adjudged third due to better tie-break score. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹33000. The top three prizes were ₹5000, ₹4000 and ₹2500 along with a trophy each respectively. World Championship Game 14: Ding Liren escapes disaster, Playoff to crown the winner

The 14th game of the FIDE World Championship 2023 was the longest one. It lasted for nearly seven hours and 90 moves. The match witnessed Nimzo-Indian for the second time. It was a different variation in the final Classical game. Ding Liren went for an ambitious 12.Ng5 followed by 13.h4. "If Ng5 and h4 would win every game, chess would be very easy for White." - Ian Nepomniachtchhi quipped. The World no.3 sacrificed a pawn in the endgame and landed himself in a precarious position. Somehow he managed to find the crucial resource 38.b6 in the endgame which saved the day for him. Bharat Kumar Reddy Poluri and IM Chakravarthi Reddy M scored an unbeaten 8.5/10 each at 5th Bangalore Rating Open 2023. Bharat became the champion due to better tie-break score, the top seed Chakravarthi was placed second. FM Joydeep Dutta edged past five other players to finish third. The top five finishers remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹700000. The top three prizes were ₹60000 + trophy, ₹50000 and ₹40000 each respectively. Bharat won quite a few tournaments in this year. However, this is his first Rating tournament triumph since October 2022.
