8th Johor International Open kicks off from 5th July

The Johor Chess Open is back for its 8th edition and it promises to be bigger and better than ever before. The tournament will take place from the 5th to the 11th of July 2023. This year, there are two sections – the Masters and the Amateurs. The 8th Johor International Open is now part of the new ASEAN CHESS Series! The total prize money for the Masters section is RM90,000 while the Amateurs section has RM35,000 up for grab. So, whether you are a seasoned chess player or a beginner, there is a chance for you to win big at the Johor Chess Open. Sethuraman S P wins Rotachess Rapid Rating Open 2023

Top seed of the tournament, GM Sethuraman S P scored 8/9 to win Rotachess Rapid Rating Open 2023. Despite losing the penultimate round game against GM Bharath Subramaniyam H, he bounced back by winning the final round game against IM Ravi Teja S. Four more players, GM Bharath Subramaniyam H, GM Karthikeyan Murali, GM Arjun Kalyan and IM Bala Chandra Prasad Dhulipalla also scored 8/9 each. They were placed second to fifth according to tie-breaks. Bharath, Karthikeyan and Bala remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹550000. The top three prizes were ₹75000, ₹50000 and ₹35000 along with a trophy each. Harikrishna set to defend his title at Prague International Chess Festival 2023 Masters

The fifth edition of Prague International Chess Festival 2023 starts today. India no.4 and World no.32 Pentala Harikrishna will be defending his Masters title as he won it last year convincingly. Harikrishna is third-highest rated player in the field. He got number ten at the Drawing of Lots. He will face Czech Republic no.2, Thai Dai Van Nguyen in the first round. India's 66th GM Akash G will be the sole participant in the Challengers section. He will start his campaign against FM Vaclav Finek (CZE). Both Masters and Challengers will be a Round-Robin event. A total of 32 players are taking part in the Open section. Round 1 for Masters and Challengers start today at 3 p.m. local time, 6:30 p.m. IST. Marthandan wins 32nd CUSAT Rating Open 2023

K U Marthandan and FM Srinivasa Rao M scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 at 32nd CUSAT Rating Open 2023. Marthandan won the tournament due to better tie-break score, Srinivasa was adjudged second. Six players - IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam, Akhilan E M, Madhusoodanan K R, Rahul V S, Parteev Sunil and Gowrishankar Jayaraj scored 7/8 each. They were placed third to eighth respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000. Top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹25000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each. The tournament was held between 26th and 30th May 2023 at CUSAT Campus. This was Marthandan's fifth overall, first rating tournament triumph of the year. He went on to win two more tournaments after winning this. Nubairshah Shaikh and Sakshi Chitlange dominate SACC Open and Women Championships 2023, Sayantan second

IM Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win SACC Championship 2023 Open. WGM-elect WIM Sakshi Chitlange scored a perfect 7/7 to become the champion in the Women's event. Nubair won this event for the second consecutive time. He won the inaugural edition which was then named 'SAARC Championship' in 2019. The highest rated player of the event, GM Sayantan Das scored 7.5/9 to finish second. His sole loss was against the eventual winner. Nepal no.2 FM Rupesh Jaiswal scored 6/9 to finish third. Sakshi finished a staggering 1.5 points ahead of the field Bangladesh no.4 woman, Wadifa Ahmed scored 5.5/7 to secure second and Nepal no.3 woman, WFM Sujana Lohani was placed third with a score of 4.5/7. The top three prizes in the Open were NRS 150000, 100000 and 50000, for Women it was NRS 100000, 60000 and 40000 along with a trophy and medal each respectively. 21st ASEAN+ Age-Group Championships gets underway

After a three-year break, a consequence of the global COVID-19 pandemic in region that has reacted conservatively, the longstanding ASEAN Age Group Championships has now resumed. The 21st ASEAN+ Age-Group Championship is currently being held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 17th-26th June 2023, and has attracted 328 players from 15 countries. As in the previous 20 editions, direct titles are awarded in standard chess, and is also played in rapid and blitz formats.The categories are from under 8 to under 20, both boys and girls, and also has a seniors event, and this year ASEAN chess is being showcased on 23rd June as an exhibition sport. Disha Patil dominates 1st Maharashtra Chess Festival Below 1600 Rating Tournament 2023

13-year-old Disha Patil (MAH) scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Maharashtra Chess Festival Below 1600 Rating Tournament 2023. She finished a half point ahead of the competition. Mani Bharathy scored sole 8/9 to secure second place. Vishwanath Kannam and Ameya Abhay Shrivastava scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed third and fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1000000. The top three prizes were ₹110000, ₹95000 and ₹85000 along with a trophy each respectively. Diptayan Ghosh wins Professor Lim Kok Ann Open 2023

GM Diptayan Ghosh, GM Vladislav Artemiev and IM Medina Warda Aulia (INA) scored 7.5/9 each at Professor Lim Kok Ann International Open 2023. Diptayan won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. Artemiev and Medina were adjudged second and third. The seventh round encounter between Diptayan and Artemiev ended in a draw. They both remained undefeated. Eight players scored 7/9. Out of them, GM Srinath Narayanan and IM Ravi Teja S were the only two Indians to make a top ten finish. They were placed eighth and tenth respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was over SGD 25000. The top three prizes were SGD 4000, 3000 and 2500 along with a trophy each respectively. This is Diptayan's third triumph of the year. Rotachess Rapid Rating Open 2023 R1-4: Haridev stuns Karthik

A total of 22 players are in the lead with a score of 4/4 at Rotachess Rapid Rating Open 2023. The six GMs who have won all four of their games are - top seed of the event, Sethuraman S P, Karthikeyan Murali, Deep Sengupta, Venkatesh M R, Bharath Subramaniyam H and Arjun Kalyan. Birthday boy Arjun won all four of his games on his 21st birthday. Haridev S scored the biggest win of the day. He defeated the reigning National Senior champion, GM Karthik Venkataraman in the third round. IM Dhulipalla Bala Chandra Prasad had an exciting, topsy-turvy game against Badri Narayan S. Both had their fair share of chances. Peter Anand A missed his big opportunity to draw against GM Karthikeyan. Total Prize fund ₹550000 is up for grabs with the first prize being ₹75000. Kushagra Mohan wins a double at 10th Dhamso International Chess Festival 2023

IM Kushagra Mohan scored an unbeaten 9/10 and 8.5/9 to win 10th Dhamso International Chess Festival Classical and Blitz Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field in both. Senevirathne S D B K (SRI), GM Azer Mirzoev (AZE) and IM Himal Gusain scored 8.5/10 each in Classical. They shared second place. In the Blitz event, Samaranayake K P R N (SRI), Piyumantha M Thisal Manjith (SRI) and IM Himal Gusain scored 8/10 each in Blitz. They all shared second place. The total cash prize fund of the tournament was LKR 1.4 Million. The top three prizes in the Classical event were LKR 150000 + trophy, 100000 and 70000 along with a medal each respectively. For Blitz, the top three prizes were LKR 40000 + trophy, 30000 and 20000 along with a medal each respectively. Kushagra's double triumph earned him a combined total of ₹50198 approx. Schedule and Scoring System for Tech Mahindra Global Chess League

Triveni Continental Kings to clash with upGrad Mumba Masters in the opening encounter of the inaugural Tech Mahindra Global Chess League. Chingari Gulf Titans vs Ganges Grandmasters will be the second match on the first day, 22nd June 2023. Global Chess League to award bonus game points for starting with Black and winning, giving players incentive to go for the less preferred choice. There are five days consisting of two matches and five days consisting of four matches. Two-match days will start at 5:30 p.m. local time and 7 p.m. IST, whereas four-match days will start at 2 p.m. local time, 3:30 p.m. IST. Check out the article to find out the entire schedule. Carlsen, Gukesh, Praggnanandhaa, Humpy, Harika, Wenjun among the participants of FIDE World Cup 2023

The World no.1 Magnus Carlsen and the reigning Women's World Champion - Ju Wenjun have confirmed their participation at the upcoming FIDE World Cup and Women's World Cup 2023 respectively. The confirmed Indian players so far are - D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa, S L Narayanan, B Adhiban, Harsha Bharathakoti, Karthik Venkataraman, Abhimanyu Puranik, Koneru Humpy, Harika Dronavalli, Divya Deshmukh, Nandhidhaa P V, Priyanka Nutakki and Mary Ann Gomes. More Indian players names might get announced by the end of this month. Whom do you wish to see who has not qualified yet? A total of 206 players in the Open and 103 in the Women's World Cup are slated to take part. The total prize fund is US$ 1834000 in the Open and $676250 in the Women, with the first being $110000 and $50000 is up for grabs.
