Deepan Chakkravarthy Scores 6/6 after 1st Loss at Athens of The East

Things are heating up at the Athens of the East after 7 rounds. GM Deepan Chakkravarthy, who suffered a loss in the first round of the event against CM Aarav A, is now leading the event with 6/7 points and is half a point ahead of the field. For second place, it's a tie between 6 players right now: GM Srihari L R, GM Aleksandrov Aleksej, GM Fedorov Alexei, Sri Sai Baswanth P, GM Laxman, R.R., and FM Jai Sankar Subramanian. All the mentioned players are on 5.5/7 points. The hero of the starting rounds, Sharnarthi Shlok suffered a Loss against Sri Sai Baswanth P in the 6th round, but he held a draw with IM Srihari L in the 7th round, and now he is on 5/7 points. Aarit Kapil from Delhi won his 7th round against IM Gochelashvili David, and he will be facing GM Vladimir Burmakin in round 8. World Rapid 2025 Day 2: Humpy and Jiner emerge coleaders

The reigning and defending champion, GM Humpy Koneru and GM Jiner Zhu (CHN) are the coleaders at FIDE World Rapid Championship 2025 Women. They will inevitably clash against each other in Round 9. Humpy crushed IM Sara Khadem (ESP) to gain sole lead after Round 7. Then she missed few winning chances against GM Aleksandra Goryachkina in the following round, allowing Jiner to catch up with her. GM Harika Dronavalli is among the ten pursuers at 6/8 each. In the Open section, GM Vladislav Artemiev handed the World no.1, GM Magnus Carlsen (NOR) his first loss of the event in Round 7. Currently, Artemiev and GM Hans Niemann (USA) are the coleaders at 7.5/8 each. Carlsen is trailing by a half point with GM Alexey Sarana (SRB), GM Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus (TUR) and GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) at 7/8 each. The 5th Athens of the East International Grandmaster Open is currently taking place in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Organized by the Ananthi Chess Academy, this event is a major part of the Tamil Nadu Chess Festival.The tournament began on December 24 and will conclude on December 31, 2025. Games are being held at the Amika Hotel.The total cash prize pool is ₹48,00,000 In addition to money, the tournament is famous for giving away 8 brand-new cars, 3 bikes, and 100 cycles to winners in different categories. Untitled Sharnarthi Shlok beat 2nd seeded Grandmaster L R Srihari in the 4th round and GM Alexei Fedorov of Belarus and Sharnarthi Shlok are now leading with 4 points, and now both of the players will face each other in round 5. World Rapid 2025 Day 1: Great start for Goutham Krishna, Arjun shows true grit against Carlsen

IM Goutham Krishna H made a great start at FIDE World Rapid Chess Championship 2025 Open. He scored an unbeaten 4/5 against all-star opponents. World no.1, Magnus Carlsen (NOR), Arjun Erigaisi and World Champion, D Gukesh are in a five-way lead 4.5/5 with Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA) and Vladislav Artemiev. Arjun showed incredible resilience against Carlsen in the fifth round. GM Sandipan Chanda and GM Nihal Sarin are at 4/5 each. Sandipan played some wild games to score a hat-trick of wins including victories against Levon Aronian (USA) and R Praggnanandhaa in consecutive battles. In the Women's section, GM Harika Dronavalli is trailing the leader by a half point at 3.5/5. Four rounds of Rapid games will be played today in each section. Press Conference and Draw of Lots were held a day before the start of FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships 2025. A total of 42 Indians, 29 in Open and 13 in the Women are slated to take part which is the highest ever. Volodar Murzin, Humpy Koneru, Magnus Carlsen, Ian Nepomniachtchi and Wenjun Ju return to defend their World Rapid and Blitz titles. Augustin A, IM Apoorv Kamble FM Samyak Dharewa scored 8/9 each at Magic Square Rapid Rating Open 2025. Augustin won the tournament on tie-breaks. Apoorv and Samyak were placed second and third respectively. Only Apoorv remained undefeated among them. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹400000. The top three prizes were ₹30000 + trophy, ₹20000 + trophy and ₹15000 each. How four schoolboys are using chess for social impact

There is a certain simplicity in how meaningful initiatives begin. In this article, we look at one such story that started with four schoolboys and a game they loved. Aaditya, Nehan, Krish, and Vivaan are young chess players from Mumbai who chose to share the joy of chess with more people. They named the initiative Chess4Change. It began as a few teaching sessions at the AngelXpress Foundation in Sewri and slowly grew into something larger, moving from in-person workshops to online sessions, and later into partnerships that helped distribute chess sets in tribal schools and pediatric care centres. Cheniram Pegu, Soram Rahul Singh, Vigneshwaran S and Amartya Saumitra Gupta scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 each at 1st Arunachal Pradesh Chess Festival Below 2000 Rating Category B 2025. Cheniram won the tournament on tie-breaks. The remaining three were placed second to fourth respectively. The total prize fund of the festival was ₹3500000, ₹1200000 in Category B. The top three prizes in B were ₹200000, ₹150000 and ₹100000 along with a trophy each. The four-day nine round Below 2000 Rating tournament was organized by All Arunachal Pradesh Chess Association at Padi Yubbe Indoor Stadium in Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh from 5th to 8th December 2025. Peng Li Min prevails at Jura Open 2025, C R G Krishna third

GM Peng Li Min (SUI) scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 to win Jura Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. IM Tom Decuigniere (FRA) scored 6/7 to secure second place. IM C R G Krishna edged past five other players on tie-breaks to finish sixth scoring 5.5/7. C R G's sole loss of the event was against the eventual champion, Peng in Round 6. The top three prizes were CHF 1200, 800 and 500 each. The three-day seven round Rating Open tournament was organized by Échiquier BruntrutainÉchiquier Bruntrutain at Espace Auguste-Viatte in Porrentruy, Switzerland from 28th to 30th November 2025. Alpine SG Pipers ends Triveni Continental Kings' two-year reign to win Tech Mahindra Global Chess League 2025

Triveni Continental Kings started Tech Mahindra Global Chess League 2025 with a victory over Alpine SG Pipers. However, ASGP finished the event with two emphatic victories in the Finals to end the champion's two-year-long reign. Alireza Firouzja (TCK) scored the lone win for their team in the first Final match. Anish Giri, GM Nino Batsiashvili and Leon Luke Mendonca were the victors for ASGP. In the second match, GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (TCK) scored the only win for their team. Fabiano Caruana, Giri, R Praggnanandhaa and Leon scored the wins for ASGP and ensured the team wins the event for the first time. PBG Alaskan Knights both tie-break matches against Ganges Grandmasters to finish third. World Champion, D Gukesh lost, drew the next two and then won against Vishy Anand in tie-breaks. Mitrabha Guha clinches a double at 1st Arunachal Pradesh Chess Festival Rapid and Blitz Rating Open 2025

GM Mitrabha Guha scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 1st Arunachal Pradesh Chess Festival Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. IM Utsab Chatterjee and IM Mayank Chakraborty scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the festival was ₹3500000, ₹400000 in Rapid and Blitz each. The top three prizes in Rapid and Blitz were ₹80000, ₹50000 and ₹40000 along with a trophy each. Mitrabha also won the Blitz Rating Open scoring 8.5/9, also remained undefeated. He finished a full point ahead of others. Kartavya Anadkat scored sole 7.5/9 to claim second place. GM Srihari L R edged past Daksh Goyal on tie-breaks to be placed third with a score of 7/9. This was the reigning National and Commonwealth Blitz 2025 champion, Mitrabha's 14th and 15th rating tournament triumph of the year.

Sriansh Sinha scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 28th RCC Rapid Rating Chess Cup Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Raveesh Kote and Rudra Rajeev scored 8/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹70000. The top three prizes were ₹10000, ₹7500 and ₹5500 along with a trophy each. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Rao's Chess Corner at SDM Law College in Mangaluru, Karnataka on 30th November 2025.
