Fabiano Caruana (USA) defeated Pavel Eljanov (UKR) in the final round to win NC World Masters 2023. WGM Dinara Wagner (GER) drew against IM Ruben Gideon Köllner (GER) to become the champion in Sportland NRW Cup and earn her second GM-norm. GM Karthik Venkataraman scored 6.5/9 to finish second. Germany no.3 GM Alexander Donchenko defeated GM Ori Kobo (ISR) in a 96-move long battle to win Sparkassen Chess Open A on tie-breaks. The sole leader GM Frederik Svane (GER) drew against IM Gleb Dudin to finish second. GM Leon Luke Mendonca finished with a score 7/9 to be placed third. GM Pranav Anand also made 7/9. He was placed seventh. GM Aryan Chopra and IM Rathanvel V S are the only two other Indians to make a top ten finish. They scored 6.5/9 each to secure eighth and tenth place respectively. 49th National Women 2023 R3: Divya Deshmukh averts a disaster against Mrittika Mallick

Top seed IM Divya Deshmukh averted disaster against Mrittika Mallick (WB) in the third round of 49th National Women 2023. The reigning National Under-17 Girls champion correctly launched an attack when the opportunity was presented. However, she was unable to follow through. Thus, the defending two-time National Women and reigning Asian Women 2023 Gold medalist managed to escape with a win. WFM Sai Nirupama Kotepalli (AP), WCM Bristy Mukherjee (WB) and Sarayu Velpula (TEL) held IM Eesha Karavade (PSPB), IM Soumya Swaminathan (PSPB) and WIM Sakshi Chitlange (MAH) to a solid draw each respectively. Jonas Buhl Bjerre wins a thriller for Triveni Continental Kings to clinch Tech Mahindra Global Chess League

The recently turned 19-year-old Danish GM Jonas Buhl Bjerre is the hero of the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League 2023 Finals. After three draws in the sudden death matches, he checkmated Javokhir Sindarov (uMM) to etch Triveni Continental Kings as the winner of the inaugural edition. Before this game, Jonas had lost four times against Sindarov today. It was not that he was playing bad. Even in the qualifier stage, he had many great positions but he just could not convert it. What's important is, the teenager won when it mattered the most. IM Sara Khadem (TCK) had to be applauded as well. She defended an inferior position against GM Harika Dronavalli (uMM) in the first sudden death game. Sumit Grover wins 2nd Kashmir Rating Open 2023

Sumit Grover scored 7.5/9 to win 2nd Kashmir Rating Open 2023. Hasan Ashraf and Pradeep Tiwari also scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. Both Sumit and Pradeep remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. Top three prizes were ₹31000, ₹21000 and ₹11000 along with a trophy each respectively. The tournament was held from 10th to 15th June 2023 at Indoor Sports Complex, Polo Ground in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. It was organized by The Kashmir Chess Club, Srinagar. Frederik Svane on the verge of winning Sparkassen Chess Trophy Open 2023

GM Frederik Svane (GER) defeated GM Aryan Chopra to emerge sole leader 7/8 at Sparkassen Chess Open A 2023. He is now a half point ahead of GM Alexander Donchenko (GER) and IM Gleb Dudin. Aryan, GM Leon Luke Mendonca, GM Raja Rithvik R, GM Harshit Raja and GM Pranav Anand are the five Indians at 6/8 each. IM Muthiah Al and IM Sammed Jaykumar Shete held Germany no.2 GM Matthias Bluebaum and FIDE World Cup 2007 winner GM Gata Kamsky to a draw each. Muthiah played solid throughout the game. Fabiano Caruana and Dmitrij Kollars defeated Vladimir Kramnik and Pavel Eljanov respectively. Caruana is once again the sole leader in the NC World Masters. 12-year-old Kalyani Sirin (KER) scored a big upset against WGM Pratyusha Bodda (AP). The former launched a successful attack on her opponent's kingside and ended up delivering a checkmate. Kanishka S (TN), Sannidhi Ramakrishna Bhat (MAH) and Saniya Rafique Tadavi (MAH) held WGM Mary Ann Gomes (PSPB), WIM Salonika Saina (ODI) and WIM Vishwa Vasnawala (GUJ) to a draw each. Dakshita Kumawat (RAJ) had a great opportunity to draw her game against WGM Srija Seshadri (TN). However, she misplayed it and lost. 31 players are currently at 2/2. The final day of the Double Round-Robin stage started by SG Alpine Warrior's loss against Chingari Gulf Titans 0-3 (7-8). Magnus Carlsen won the sole game for his team against Jan-Krzysztof Duda. However, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov's win over Gukesh turned gave CGT a crucial win as all other games ended in draws. Then Triveni Continental Kings eliminated Ganges Grandmasters 3-0 (11-6). Wei Yi, Sara Khadem and Jonas Buhl Bjerre scored the crucial win which helped the team secure a spot in the Finals for TCK. SG Alpine Warriors suffered the shocking huge defeat 0-3 (2-18) against upGrad Mumba Masters. Alexander Grischuk, Vidit Gujrathi, Koneru Humpy and Harika Dronavalli's wins ensured the top seed and tournament favorite SGAW's elimination. Ray Robson wins 5th Prague International Chess Festival 2023 Masters, Harikrishna third

Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) and Ray Robson (USA) finished with the same score 5.5/9 at 5th Prague International Chess Festival 2023 Masters. They had to play tie-breaks to determine the winner. Robson won the first blitz tie-break game and drew the second, although he was winning that too. The defending champion, Pentala Harikrishna drew his final round game against Haik Martirosyan (ARM). He scored an unbeaten sole 5/9 to finish third. FM Sharan Rao defeated IM Yahli Sokolovsky (ISR) in the final round of Karel Janeček Open to secure his final IM-norm. He scored 7/9 and finished seventh. A last round loss cost GM Deep Sengupta a podium finish. He was placed sixth. GM Mitrabha Guha and IM Ameya Audi also scored 7/9 each. GM Leon Luke Mendonca drew his game against the Germany no.3 GM Alexander Donchenko. GM Aryan Chopra defeated GM Harshit Raja in a grueling battle. The latter's inaccuracy in the same color bishop endgame proved fatal for him. Thus, Donchenko, Aryan and GM Frederik Svane (GER) are the three leaders at 6/7 each at the conclusion of the seventh round of Sparkassen Chess Open A. WGM Dinara Wagner (GER) has emerged sole leader 5.5/7 in the Sportland NRW Cup. Vladimir Kramnik and Dmitrij Kollars missed their respective wins Pavel Eljaov (UKR) and Fabiano Caruana (USA) respectively. Both games ended in draws. 14-year-old Suryanshi Sharma (HP) held WIM Isha Sharma (KAR) to a draw in the first round of 49th National Women 2023. The teenager could have pushed for a win in the double rook and opposite color bishop endgame. However, she traded the rooks and drew the resultant opposite color bishop endgame comfortably. The defending two-time National Women and the newly crowned Asian Women 2023 champion - IM Divya Deshmukh is the top seed. Since 2018, every champion won it for two consecutive years before a new champion got crowned. Levon Aronian has beaten Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Magnus Carlsen and Ian Nepomniachtchi in three consecutive must-win situations. Today he defeated Carlsen and Nepo in consecutive games. While, the World no.1 allowed the two-time World Cup winner to score a quick 27-move victory. Against, Nepo he had to grind in the endgame and wait till the former world championship contender blundered. Triveni Continental Kings has now tied Ganges Grandmasters with the same score 15/27. SG Alpine Warriors also has the same match points. However, they still have two matches left. Rupesh Kumar Mishra scored 8/9 to win Chess for Everyone All India Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Four players - Jain Shrenhik Daklia, Saurabh Kumar, Kamad Mishra and Jion Ghosh scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹50000. Top three prizes were ₹11000, ₹7000 and ₹5000 along with a trophy each respectively. The tournament was held from 3rd to 7th June 2023 at SECL Baikunthpur Auditorium Gautam Sadn in Baikunthpur, Chhattisgarh. It was organized by Korea District Chess Association. Six players including Aryan, Leon and GM Harshit Raja are in pursuit at 5/6 each. GM Karthik Venkataraman defeated WGM Jana Schneider (GER) to reduce the gap 4/6 with the leaders IM Ruben Gideon Kollner and WGM Dinara Wagner 4.5/6 each. Pentala Harikrishna scored a crucial win in the penultimate round of 5th Prague International Chess Festival 2023 Masters. He defeated Hao Wang for the first time in nearly six years in a rated game. The China no.3 went wrong in the endgame, Harikrishna being an expert in that phase, had no trouble seizing his opportunity and scoring his first win of the event. He is now just a half point behind the leaders Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) and Ray Robson (USA) at 5/8 each. The Romanian defeated Thai Dai Van Nguyen to join the lead with Robson. In the Karel Janeček Open, GM Deep Sengupta won against IM Mai Narva (EST) to join the lead with GM Tomas Polak (CZE) and IM Jakub Fus (POL).
