The most talented 8-year-old in the world right now - Bodhana Sivanandan!

There are talented young chess players all over the world. They all have different journeys and differing aspirations in their lives. However, a few of them shine so brightly through their hard work that the light they emit inspires others. Sagar Shah interviewed one such very talented kid, who might easily be the most talented 8-year-old in the world right now. Yes, we are talking about the highly skilled and talented Bodhana Sivanandan. The 8-year-old talent from London recently achieved something truly amazing. Bodhana finished first at the world's cadets under 8 in rapid and blitz. What is more amazing is that she did it with a perfect score of 11/11, winning all her games in both formats. Bodhana finished 1st in rapid with a perfect score of 11, while the second seed was at 8 points, and in the blitz section, the second seed was at 7 points. The World Cadets under-8 Rapid and Blitz 2023 were held in Batumi, Georgia. How did Bodhana manage to pull off this incredible feat? Let's uncover that in this article!

Sharan Rao wins 2nd Georgi Rakovski Chess Festival Below 2400 Rating Tournament 2023

FM Sharan Rao scored 8/9 at 2nd Georgi Rakovski International Chess Festival Below 2400 Rating Tournament 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Despite losing his fourth round game against the eventual runner-up, FM Nikola Kanov (BUL), Sharan won his next five games to become a clear champion. IM Nikola Nikolovski (MKD) scored sole 7/9 to finish third. The top three prizes were BGN 2000, 1500 and 1000 each respectively. This is Sharan's third triumph of the year. Last month he won a rating tournament in Slovakia. He also finished fourth in the Blitz Open event, scoring 7/9. Currently, he is one of the three leaders heading into the final round of 42nd St. Veit Jacques-Lemans Open 2023 in Austria.

While chess is a hard game, it is almost impossible to fathom what it’s like at the very top. The training these world champions go through and how they work is something that seems to be a mystery to a common person or an amateur player. The world of top grandmasters seems like a distant galaxy that is hard to reach. In this interview, we sat with one such person who has been closely involved in that world for many years now. We had a conversation with Peter Heine and discussed everything ranging from his role as a second to both Magnus and Vishy, the differences that the onset of AI has brought to the chess world, the coming generation, the future of chess, and more. 

Winning the ChessBoxing Asian Championships and World Cup - Nongsha Angom

The gold medal winner in both, the World Cup, and the recently concluded Asian championship, Angom Nongsha Singh, is a man with many titles under his belt. He is also the broadcast manager for Chessbase for many years now. Although the journey was not a bed of roses for him, his perseverance and dedication led him to win laurels in many fields. We had the chance to interview the man after his recent win in the Asian championship and got to know a lot about ChessBoxing, his journey, future plans, and more.

Abhijeet Gupta wins Orillas de Mar Open 2023

GM Abhijeet Gupta, GM Yan Liu (CHN), GM Xiangzhi Bu (CHN), IM Dragos Ceres (ROU) and Tong Xiao (CHN) scored 7/9 each at Orillas de Mar International Open 2023. Abhijeet won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. The remaining four were placed second to fourth according to tie-breaks. Despite losing the second round against an untitled Chinese teenager, Renjie Huang, Abhijeet scored 6/7 in the next seven games to finish first. The total prize fund of the tournament was €11500. Velammal MHS Mogappair & Velammal V A are the 1st National Schools Team U-12 & U-18 Champions

Velammal MHS Mogappair scored a perfect 18/18 to become the inaugural National Schools Team Under-12 Champions. They finished three match points ahead of the field. DPS East scored sole 15/18 to secure second place. PPSNC Pune, DPS Gurgaon and AVM Invincible Army scored 13/18. PPSNC Pune was adjudged third according to tie-breaks. The Under-18 category was won by Velammal Vidyalaya Alapakkam. They also scored a perfect 18/18 to become the winner of the first edition. Velammal MHS Mogappair secured second place scoring a sole 16/18. Silicon City Team A was placed third scoring 14/18. No tie-breaks were needed to determine the top three in Under-18 category. India wins 22 medals at Western Asian Youth Chess Championships 2023

India has won a total of 22 medals including 7 Gold, 8 Silver and 7 Bronze medals at Western Asian Youth Chess Championships 2023. Vedika Pal and Aadya Ranganath won 3 Gold and 2 Silver medals each in Under-10 Girls. Tejaswini Ganesan also won three Gold and two Bronze medals in Under-16 Girls. Vedika and Tejaswini won Gold in U-10 and U-16 Girls Classical. The only other individual Gold medal winner is Aadya Ranganath in Under-10 Girls Rapid. Shivika Rohilla also won five medals in Under-16 Girls - two team Gold in Classical and Blitz, individual Silver in Classical and Blitz and a team Bronze in Rapid. Ram S Krishnan wins Sivakasi Chess Club NPSS Rathina Nadar Dr. N Mahalingam Rapid Rating Open 2023

Ram S Krishnan and Sham R scored 8/9 each at Sivakasi Chess Club NPSS Rathina Nadar Dr. N Mahalingam Rapid Rating Open 2023. Ram won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Sham was placed second. Only Ram remained undefeated among the podium finishers. Four players - Dinesh Rajan M, Nandish V S, Kumaresh A and Mithun Anand V scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed third to sixth respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹150000. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹16000 and ₹13000 along with a trophy each. This is also Ram's 25th rating tournament victory. The team 'Ground Breaking Strategy' comprising Sham R and Gugan G won the Doubles tournament scoring 12/14. Golden Knights and King of Knightmares also scored the same. Novendra Priasmoro wins 8th Johor International Open 2023 Masters, Diptayan Ghosh second

GM Novendra Priasmoro (INA) scored an unbeaten 7/9 to win 8th Johor International Chess Open 2023 Masters. He finished a full point ahead of the competition. Top seed GM Diptayan Ghosh and IM Jagadeesh Siddharth (SGP) scored 6/9 each. They were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. Top three remained undefeated. Total prize fund was RM 125000, RM 90000 in the Masters and RM 35000 in the Amateurs. Top three prizes were RM 22000, 11000 and 9000 each. Second and third prize got shared as they scored the same points. Jiang Haochen (CHN) won the Amateur section 7.5/9 and IM Azarya Jodi Setyaki (INA) clinched the Rapid event 6.5/7. Neelash Saha clinches 35th All India Railway Individual Championship 2023 on his debut

IM Neelash Saha of South Eastern Railway scored an unbeaten 6/7 to win 35th All India Railway Individual Chess Championship 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. IM Aronyak Ghosh (Eastern Railway), IM C R G Krishna (South Western Railway) and GM Saptarshi Roy (Eastern Railway) scored 5.5/7 each. They were placed second, third and fourth respectively. This was a debut event for both Neelash and Aronyak. Although, Aronyak had represented RSPB A at the 42nd National Team 2023 earlier this year and secured a second runner-up position. This is Neelash's fourth and only non-rated tournament triumph of the year. He earned his maiden GM-norm at Vezerkepzo Winter Carnival GM 2023 which was his first tournament victory of 2023.

Ferenc Berkes wins 2nd Rigo Janos Memorial Open 2023, Harsh Suresh second

GM Ferenc Berkes (HUN), FM Harsh Suresh and GM Valeriy Aveskulov (UKR) scored 7.5/9 each at 2nd Rigo Janos Memorial Open 2023. Ferenc won the tournament due to better tie-break score, Harsh and Aveskulov were placed second and third. Top three remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was HUF 1275000 (€3187). The top three prizes in the Open was HUF 300000 (€750) + cup, medal and certificate , HUF 200000 (€500) and HUF 150000 (€375) each respectively. India bags nine medals at 21st ASEAN+ Age Group Championships 2023

India won a total of nine medals at 21st ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championships 2023. 52-year-old Anjali Sagar secured the maximum number of medals - four in Senior 50 category. She earned Gold in Rapid, Silver in Standard, Gold in Blitz Women and Bronze in Blitz Open. One of the latest WIMs of India, Saina Salonika scored 5/7 to secure Silver in Under-20 Girls Rapid. Bhavik Ahuja scored 6.5/9 to clinch Gold in Under-16 Open Blitz. Amulya Guruprasad, Cera Dagariya and Siya Sagar won team medals for India in the Under-16 Girls category. Integral Coach Factory dominates 35th All India Railway Team Championship 2023

Integral Coach Factory scored an unbeaten 10/12 to win 35th All India Inter Railway Team Chess Championship 2023. ICF defeated the eventual runner-up Eastern Railway convincingly 1-3 in the fourth round. ER scored 9/12 to finish sole second. Metro Railway Kolkata and the defending champion Southern Railway scored 8/12 each. However, Metro edged past SR on tie-breaks to finish third. GM Deepan Chakkravarthy was the top scorer for his team ICF. He scored an unbeaten 5/6. GM Visakh N R and IM P Shyam Nikhil also remained undefeated. They made 4.5/6 and 4/6 each.
