Nikita Petrov wins 1st Annemasse International Festival 2023, Sayantan second and Sahaj third

GM Nikita Petrov (MNE) and GM Sayantan Das scored an unbeaten 7/9 each at 1st Annemasse International Chess Festival 2023. Nikita won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Sayantan secured second place. Their seventh round game against each other ended in a draw. Nine players scored 6.5/9. Out of them, five are Indians. GM Sahaj Grover, GM Deep Sengupta, GM Sankalp Gupta, GM Diptayan Ghosh and IM Mehar Chinna Reddy C H were placed third, fourth, fifth, sixth and eleventh respectively. The 4th and 5th round of National Under-9 Chess Championships saw more rating upsets, and the lead getting thinner at the top. After 5 rounds of play, there are 2 players each in the Open and Girls section with a perfect score of 5/5 points. Samhita Pungavanam (1345, TEL) and Pooja Shree R (1249, TN) lead the girls section, while Advik Amit Agrawal (1368, MAH) and Venkata Naga Karthik Malladi (1317, KAR) have the lead in the open category. The biggest result of the day was the top seed in the Girls section, Sharvaanica AS (1430, TN) going down against Bhavanya Panchumarthi (1192, AP). Grand Swiss 2023 R10: Vaishali vanquishes Zhongyi Tan, secures her place in the Women's Candidates 2024

IM Vaishali R is in the form of her career. She defeated her fifth former Women's World Champion, GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN) in the penultimate round of FIDE Grand Swiss 2023 Women. Thus, she earned herself a spot in the FIDE Women's Candidates 2024. She is also maintaining her sole lead 8/10. GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) is the sole woman trailing her by a half point at 7.5/10. In the Open event, GM Hikaru Nakamura won the All-American clash against GM Fabiano Caruana. GM Vidit Gujrathi scored a fantastic victory against the Romania no.2 GM Bogdan Daniel-Deac. GM Arjun Erigaisi also scored an amazing win against GM Samuel Sevian (USA). GM Andrey Esipenko, Nakamura and Vidit are currently in a three-way lead 7.5/10. Himal Gusain dominates 1st Saint-Macaire Autumn Open 2023

IM Himal Gusain scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Saint-Macaire Autumn Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. IM Floryan Eugene (FRA) scored sole 8/9 to secure second place. IM Radoslaw Barski (POL) scored 7/9 to be placed third. Himal's sole draw of the event was against the eventual runner-up, Floryan in the sixth round. He defeated the second runner-up, Barski in the fifth round. The total prize fund of the tournament was €5000. The first prize was €1000 and a trophy. Grand Swiss 2023 R9: Vaishali beats Stefanova, emerges sole leader

IM Vaishali R defeated GM Antoaneta Stefanova (BUL) in the ninth round of FIDE Grand Swiss 2023 Women. The former Women's world champion made an incorrect exchange of pieces in the endgame which eased Vaishali's path towards victory. Her coleader GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) was held to a draw by IM Leya Garifullina, allowing Vaishali to become the sole leader 7/9. She will face another former Women's world champion, GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN) in the penultimate round. GM Vidit Gujrathi had a well contested draw against GM Andrey Esipenko. The leader group in the Open section increased to six players as GM Hikaru Nakamura (USA) and GM Parham Maghsoodloo (IRI) joined Esipenko, Vidit, GM Fabiano Caruana (USA) and GM Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU). The 2nd and 3rd round of the National Under-9 Championships saw a lot of upsets. In the Girls section, the top seed Sharvaanica AS (1430, TN) managed to win all 3 of her games comfortably so far - now having 3/3 with 11 other players. However, the top seed of the Open section, Safin Safarullakhan (1716, KER) was taken down by Chirag Lahoti (1247, MAH) with the White pieces, undoubtedly the biggest result of the round. Augustin A victorious at DKCA Rating Open 2023

Augustin A scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win DKCA Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Six players - Lokesh N, Indrajeet Mahindrakar, Aditya Savalkar, Sushanth Vaman Shetty, Swarnamala B and Rahul K scored 7.5/9 each. Lokesh and Indrajeet secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Augustin defeated the eventual second runner-up, Indrajeet in the seventh round. He won the tournament with a victory over the sole IM taking part in the event - Ramnathan Balasubramaniam. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹600000. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹35000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each. This is Augustin's seventh overall tournament triumph of the year. Over 360 children are taking part at 36th National Under-9 Open and Girls Chess Championships 2023. Round 9 starts today from 1:30 p.m. IST. Seraikela Kharsawan District Chess Association is organizing the tournaments at The Wave International in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. The seven-day eleven-round Swiss league Rating tournaments have a total prize fund ₹500000, ₹250000 in Boys and Girls section each. The top three prizes are ₹50000, ₹36000 and ₹30000 each. Grand Swiss 2023 R8: Caruana, Esipenko and Deac join Vidit in a four-way lead

GM Vidit Gujrathi made a 16-move quick draw against GM Hikaru Nakamura (USA) in the eighth round of FIDE Grand Swiss 2023. The result allowed GM Fabiano Caruana (USA), GM Andrey Esipenko and GM Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) to catch up with Vidit in the lead 6/8. GM Arjun Erigaisi once again missed a good opportunity against GM Yuriy Kuzubov (UKR). While it was not a definite win unlike the last round, he had a promising position. GM R Praggnanandhaa would be disappointed after grinding a relatively balanced rook endgame for seven hours and 127 moves. Aditya Mittal triumphs at Pavlodar Open 2023 with a 2722 performance

GM Aditya Mittal scored an unbeaten 8/10 to win Pavlodar Open 2023. He also made the exact same score few months when he won Astana Zhuldyzdary International Chess Festival Open A 2023. The 16-year-old finished a half point ahead of a strong field which featured 14 more GMs from all over the world. He performed at 2722 and gained 18.4 Elo rating points. GM Mihail Nikitenko and GM Dmitry Bocharov scored 7.5/10 each. They were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the festival was 23000000 Tenge. The top three prizes were 4000000, 3000000 and 2500000 each respectively. Aditya won approx. ₹710800. This is his second triumph of the year in Kazakhstan. Dreamhack Rapid and Blitz 2023 starts tomorrow Friday 3rd November

Dreamhack Rapid and Blitz 2023 starts tomorrow in Hyderabad, Telangana. Four GMs, nine IMs, a WGM and a WIM have confirmed their participation. Total ₹500000 prize fund is up for grabs, ₹300000 for Rapid and ₹200000 for Blitz. Entry is FREE for GM, IM, WGM and WIM. For everyone else, you have to buy a ticket as per your preference which includes participation in the chess tournament. A player can register for either Rapid or Blitz or both, as per their choice. This tournament is unlike any other as it takes place inside a gaming convention, which means loud music and noise will be there throughout the day. So if you haven't registered yet, do it right away. Whoever can block out the noise, focus on their game, will win big and clinch the championship!

Grand Swiss 2023 R7: Vidit outplays Sindarov, emerges sole leader

GM Vidit Gujrathi defeated GM Javokhir Sindarov (UZB) in the seventh round of FIDE Grand Swiss 2023. The win put Vidit in the sole lead position 5.5/7. He outplayed the 44th Olympiad Gold medalist in the middlegame. After getting a winning position, the India no.4 felt that he gave his opponent some counterplay in the end which he should not have. GM Arjun Erigaisi missed a great opportunity to beat GM Andrey Esipenko. A win would have made him a coleader with Vidit. The draw puts him in the pack of 13 players who are at 5/7. IM Vaishali R defeated the reigning two-time World Blitz Women's champion, IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ). She joined the lead with GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) and GM Antoaneta Stefanova (BUL).
