Chess-Tech Startup CircleChess Ventures into Rated Tournament with Remarkable Results

IM Rahul Sangma scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win the inaugural CircleChess Bangalore Rapid Rating Open 2024. Rahul finished a half point ahead of the rest. Five players - IM Harikrishnan A Ra, FM Kunal M, GM P Shyam Nikhil, IM Nitin S and FM Senthil Maran K. The total prize fund was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹25000, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each. That's not all, they also received CircleChess software subscriptions. The one-day rating tournament was organized by CircleChess.com at Global Divinity Mall in Bengaluru, Karnataka on 1st June 2024. This is Rahul's first rating tournament triumph of the year. Shreyas Das wins 1st Khelo Chess India International Classical FIDE Rating tournament

Shreyas Das from Delhi has won the Khelo Chess India Classical International Rating Tournament organized by ChessBase India in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh! A total of 174 players participated in this tournament, which was part of the FIDE 100 series being held this year to commemorate the 100th year of the World Chess Federation. The great thing is that the members of Hindi ChessBase India YouTube channel played a special role in organizing this tournament! This six-day tournament, which was started with the aim of organizing a world-class event at a low entry fee, was successful in its objective. Through this event, about 25 new players got their FIDE ratings, while 68 players played classical tournament for the first time and got FIDE ID. Revansh Vaidya of Bhopal secured second place, while Anil Kushwaha of Bhopal secured third place. On the last day of the tournament, a special event was organized under FIDE 100 in which Colombia's female international master Angela Franco and Bhopal's under 10 national champion Madhavendra Pratap Sharma gave a simultaneous exhibition against a total of 20 players. India wins 15 medals at 26th Asian Youth Chess Championships 2024 Classical

India won 15 medals - eight individual and seven team at 26th Asian Youth 2024 Classical. Narayani Umesh Marathe lost her final round game. However, her compatriot, Nakshatra Gumudavelly crushed her opponent, Asena Golizadeh (IRI). That win ensured Narayani clinches Gold in Under-8 Girls and Nakshatra Bronze. Top seed of Under-8 Open, Sarbartho Mani scored an important win to secure Silver. Aaradhya Das won her game to secure Bronze in Under-10 Girls. Siddhanth Poonja shattered Aadik Theophane Lenin's Silver medal chances by winning the game. He got Bronze in Under-12 Open. Pratitee Bordoloi made a tough save to salvage a draw and earn Silver in Under-12 Girls. CM Velavaa Ragavesh scored in a must-win game to earn Bronze in Under-16 Open. Arjun Erigaisi dominates 5th Stepan Avagyan Memorial with a 2823 performance

Arjun Erigaisi is playing phenomenally for a really long time. Despite winning 5th Stepan Avagyan Memorial 2024 with a round to spare, he did not want a quick draw. He kept fighting against Manuel Petrosyan (ARM). Tried to look for chances. While all other games got over much earlier, Arjun played on. The game only ended in a draw via perpetual check as there was no better choice left for the current World no.4. He scored an unbeaten 6.5/9, with a performance of 2823 and gained 7.2 Elo rating points, taking his live rating to 2778.1. The defending champion, Samuel Sevian (USA), M Amin Tabatabaei (IRI) and Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) scored 5/9 each. They secured second, third and fourth place respectively. Nihal Sarin wins Cluj Grand Prix Rapid 2024

Nihal Sarin won Cluj Grand Prix Rapid 2024 by winning a must-win Armageddon with the white pieces. This is the second leg of the Romania GP 2024. The profusely talented teenager scored 8.5/10 and so did GM Imre Balog (HUN). Their seventh round battle against each other ended in a draw. Thus they had to play Armageddon. Nihal won Armageddon to become the champion. Balog finished second. GM Jaime Santos Latasa (ESP) scored 8/10 to finish third. The total prize fund of the tournament was €30000. The top three prizes were €5000, €3000 and €2000 each respectively. A total of 314 players including 22 GMs, 11 IMs and 3 WGMs have registered from 17 countries across the world. 26th Asian Youth R8: Narayani Umesh Marathe fingertips away from her second Gold

Narayani Umesh Marathe bounced back with a victory in the penultimate round of 26th Asian Youth Under-8 Girls 2024. She convincingly defeated Azaliya Balakanova (IRI) to move to 7.5/8. A win makes her a clear champion. However, a draw might still prove to be enough to win the Gold. Under-10 Girls: Bijesh Divi lost her game today. However, she still has medal chances. Under-12 Open: Aadik Theophane Lenin needs a draw in the final round against Siddhanth Poonja to secure a medal. However, a win may fetch him a better one, even a Gold maybe. Under-12 Girls: Pratitee Bordoloi leveled her score with her rival Le Vy Tran (VIE). IM Alice Lee (USA) survived by the skin of her teeth against GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) in Round 5 of 4th Cairns Cup 2024. The teenager misplayed in the endgame which almost cost her the game. Thanks to her neat little trick with the knight at the end. It helped her salvage a half point. GM Irina Krush (USA) had a great opportunity against GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI). The American did not take precautions to prevent perpetual checks by the former Women's World Champion. GM Harika Dronavalli defended well in a difficult position against GM Mariya Muzychuk (UKR). Arjun Erigaisi is in outstanding form. He is World no.4 in the live ratings for a reason. His live rating is now 2779.9 which means he is just 15.8 Elo rating points away from surpassing the World no.3 - Fabiano Caruana (USA). In the penultimate round of 5th Stepan Avagyan Memorial, Arjun defeated Volodar Murzin to win the tournament with one round to go. Murzin made a minute error in the rook and minor piece endgame. That's all it took for Arjun to seize his opportunity and win the game. Samuel Sevian (USA) had an opportunity to push for a full point against Manuel Petrosyan (ARM) in the queen and minor piece endgame, but he missed it. 14-year-old IM Alice Lee (USA) scored the biggest upset of 4th Cairns Cup 2024 in Round 4. She defeated GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI) in a definitive manner. The teenager's creative and beautiful attack was commendable, especially against a former Women's World Champion. GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN) crushed the defending champion, IM Anna Zatonskih (USA) in just 20 moves to emerge sole leader 3/4. GM Harika Dronavalli drew with GM Irina Krush (USA). GM Elisabeth Paehtz (GER) missed a small but significant opportunity against GM Mariya Muzychuk (UKR). Both Harika and Mariya are at 2.5/4 each. They will face each other in the fifth round. Arjun Erigaisi drew with Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) in the seventh round of 5th Stepan Avagyan Memorial 2024. The sole leader had a well contested draw against the Romania no.2. The remaining four games also ended in draws. Thus, Arjun maintains his full point lead 5/7. The defending champion - Samuel Sevian (USA), Deac and M Amin Tabatabaei (IRI) are at 4/7 each. Tabatabaei has the best chance to score a full point in this round. However, he needed to find a tough maneuver with his queen and bishop pair against his opponent's cramped queen and knights. Little Brothers won CJKS Premier Division Chess League 2024 scoring 15/18. They finished a full point ahead of the runner-up, Kwality Sports Club 14/18. Chattogram Mohammedan Sporting Club Bluss finished third scoring 12/18. The winner, Little Brothers suffered sole match loss against Brothers Union in Round 4. Abhay Bandewar and Priyanshu Barua were the top scorers for the winning team. They scored 7/9 and 6.5/9 each to gain 20.4 and 28.6 Elo rating points. Shivansh Tiwari scored an unbeaten 7/9 and increased his rating by 49 points. He played for the eventual second runner-up team - CMSCB. Saurabh Choubey was the highest gainer among Indians. GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI) bounced back with a victory over GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) in the third round of 4th Cairns Cup 2024. Kosteniuk won in a similar fashion as her previous loss. The Georgia no.1 woman misplayed in the opening allowing her opponent to get a signficant advantage. Kosteniuk had no trouble converting it into a full point. This is her second win of the event. The youngest participant of the tournament - IM Alice Lee (USA) drew with GM Harika Dronavalli. GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN), Kosteniuk, Harika and GM Mariya Muzychuk (UKR) are at 2/3 each.
