Anuj Shrivatri wins 1st Pro Skillcraft Rapid Rating Open 2024

Eight players scored 8/9 at 1st Pro Skillcraft Rapid Rating Open 2024. They are - IM Anuj Shrivatri, IM Aaditya Dhingra, Sudhir Kumar Sinha, IM Mayank Chakraborty, Santu Mondal, IM Aaradhya Garg, Harish Sharma and Daksh Goyal. Anuj won the tournament on tie-breaks. The remaining seven were placed second to eighth respectively. Anuj, Aaditya, Santu and Aaradhya remained undefeated. The total prize fund was ₹640000. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹30000 and ₹20000 along with a huge trophy each. The tournament was organized by Skillcraft and Eminent Chess Academy at Thyagraj Indoor Stadium in New Delhi on 27th and 28th July 2024. Thailand Pattaya Open will be back after a nearly five year hiatus. Covid-19 pandemic caused the tournament to take a sabbatical. Jarunpol Sajjaporthep, Founder and President of Pattaya Chess Club, and his better half, Khammpliw Jitasan, are bringing back the third edition of this big chess festival. Youth and Senior events will take place from 5th to 9th October, Open and Amateur events will be held from 9th to 18th October. Blitz event will take place on 13th and 14th October. Mandar Pradip Lad prevails at Goa State Senior Open Rating 2024

Top seed Mandar Pradip Lad (Bardez) scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Goa State Senior Open Rating 2024. He finished a full point ahead of the rest. 9-year-old Aaryavrat Rasiket Naik Desai (Canacona) scored sole 7.5/9 to finish second. Devesh Anand Naik (Ponda) and 10-year-old Shubh Vishnu Borkar (Salcete) scored 7/9 each. They secured third and fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Mandar drew with eventual runner-up, Aaryavrat in the fourth round and defeated the second runner-up, Devesh in the eighth. The top three prizes were ₹10000, ₹7000 and ₹5000 along with a trophy each. The tournament was organized by Goa Chess Association at Government College of Commerce and Economics, Borda, Margao, Goa from 24th to 28th July 2024. Pratik Gengaje dominates 17th Paleochora International B 2024 with a perfect score

Third seed Pratik Gengaje scored a perfect 9/9 to win 17th Paleochora International B Group (<1900) 2024. He finished a staggering two points ahead of the competition. Four players - Emma Mkhitaryan (ARM), Dimitrios Nik Papanikolaou (GRE), Panagiotis Charalampos Angelopoulos (GRE) and Theofilos Symeonidis (GRE) scored 7/9 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. Pratik defeated the eventual runner-up, Emma in the seventh round. The total prize fund of the tournament was €7000. The top three prizes were €300, €200 and €100 along with a trophy each. The tournament was organized by Chania Chess Academy, Region of Chania, Municipality of Kandanos-Selino at Paleochora School & Cultural Center of Paleochora in Paleochora, Greece from 20th to 27th July 2024. FIDE/WFCC special project: 1st World Youth Chess Solving Championships

The FIDE Centenary celebrations include some new and promising projects in cooperation with the World Federation for Chess Competition. In November, the World Youth Solving Championships for girls and boys will be held in Florianópolis, the capital of southern Brazil's Santa Catarina state, where juniors will be solving eight problems and endgames on November 4, during the free day of the World Youth Chess Championships. You can try your hand at a typical puzzle like the ones they will get.

India wins Silver and Bronze at 23rd IPCA World Individual Championship 2024

Alimzhan Ayapov (KAZ) scored 7/9 to win 23rd IPCA World Individual Championship 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Five players scored 6.5/9 each. Out of them FM Sander Severino (PHI) and FM Sargis Sargissyan (ARM) secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. CM Samarth J Rao scored 6/9 to finish ninth overall. He earned Silver in Men Wheelchair category. Sharon Rachel Abby scored 2.5/9 to win Bronze in Women in Wheelchair category. The top three prizes were €3000, €2000 and €1500 along with a cup, medal and diploma each. Integral Coach Factory dominates All India Railway Team Championship for the third time in three consecutive years

Integral Coach Factory scored an unbeaten 11/12 to win 36th All India Inter Railway Team Chess Championship 2024. ICF defeated Southern Railway convincingly 0.5-3.5 in the final round to become a clear champion. Eastern Railway scored sole 10/12 to secure second place. Metro and South Eastern Railway scored 8/12 each. However, Metro edged past SER on tie-breaks to finish third. Top two teams remained undefeated. GM Visakh N R was the top scorer for his team ICF. He scored an unbeaten 5/6. India's latest GM P Shyam Nikhil and GM Laxman R R also remained undefeated. They made 4/6 and 2.5/3 each. GM Deepan Chakkravarthy scored a crucial 4/6. Vaclav Finek wins Czech Open Pardubice 2024, Ameya Audi second

IM Vaclav Finek (CZE) and IM Ameya Audi scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 each at Czech Open Pardubice A 2024. The teenager won the tournament on tie-breaks. Four players - GM Jiri Stocek (CZE), GM Evgeny Zanan (ISR), IM Stepan Hrbek (CZE) and IM Klaudia Kulon (POL) scored 7/9 each. They were placed third to sixth respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was 300000 CZK. The top three prizes were CZK 70000, 50000 and 40000 along with a trophy each. Jan Buettner on Freestyle Chess seeing a historic shift with US $12 Million Funding

The chess world is set to witness a historic shift after the announcement on Thursday, 25th July: ‘Magnus Carlsen raises $12 Million for Freestyle Chess Grand Slam.’ This project promises to bring high-level, exclusive chess tournaments to the global stage. While the format was initially introduced in February 2024, certain developments will make it exciting for players, fans, media, organizers, sponsors, and everyone involved. Jan Buettner is the co-founder of this project along with Magnus and in a candid interview with ChessBase India, he shares his journey of starting Freestyle Chess to raising US$12 million!

Muthu Rakesh Babu victorious at Intellion Corporate Chess Tournament Finals 2024

Muthu Rakesh Babu (Cisco) scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 to win The Ultimate Chess Competition Finals 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Arunkumar Nagarajan (Qualcomm) scored 6/7 to finish second. Three players - N Madhavan (Citi), Mithun Raj A (Citi) and Naveen Prabhu S (Light and Wonder) scored 5.5/7 each. They secured third, fourth and fifth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Muthu drew with Madhavan in the final round to become the champion. The tournament was held at Ramanujan IT Park in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was organized by the team of TATA Intellion and ChessBase India 19th and 20th July. Final was held on International Chess Day. Nithin Babu scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Bangalore Triple Crown Rapid Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Nine players scored 8/9 each. Arul Anandh S P K and FM J Ramakrishna secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Nithin defeated the eventual runner-up, Arul in the penultimate round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹250000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹25000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each. SASVAS won the Team event scoring 10/12. Midilesh triumphs at 24th Sant Marti Open 2024 Group B, Vihaan Dawda second

15-year-old Midilesh Ms scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 24th Sant Marti Open Group B (<1950) 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Four players - Vihaan Dawda, Javier Morais Carreras (ESP), Edgar Lopez De Anda (USA) and Aarush Dolas scored 7.5/9. Vihaan secured second place as he had the best tie-breaks among them. The total prize fund of the tournament was €7510. The top three prizes in Group B were €450, €300 and €200 along with a trophy each. WFM Vrushali Umesh Deodhar scored an impressive 6/9 to score her maiden WIM-norm in Group A. She finished seventh overall and was the highest female finisher of the event. Top seed Kumar Gaurav scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 1st Tinsukia Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Rupam Mukherjee and Bijit Chetia scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Kumar defeated the eventual second runner-up, Bijit in the fourth round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹20000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. The tournament was organized by Tinsukia Chess Academy at Tinsukia College Auditorium in Tinsukia, Assam from 21st to 26th July 2024. Madhvendra Pratap Sharma dominates Khelo Chess India Blitz Rating Open 2024 with a 100% score

10-year-old Madhvendra Pratap Sharma scored a perfect 9/9 to win Khelo Chess India Blitz Rating Open 2024. He finished a staggering 1.5 points ahead of the field. Ishaan Singh Khanuja scored sole 7.5/9 to secure second place. Eight players scored 7/9. Out of them, Harshit Dawar finished third as he had the best tie-break score. This tournament was part of Guinness World Record attempt on International Chess Day, 20th July 2024. The top three prizes were ChessBase 17, Fritz 19 and Attack like a Super GM Fritztrainer along with a medal and FIDE 100 trophy. The one-day nine round Blitz Rating tournament was organized by us, ChessBase India at Sage International School in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Aakash G wins 21st Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit 2024, Manigandan second

The 21st Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2024 was an closely fought event. As many as five players finished with the same score 5.5/9. They are - CM Aakash G, Manigandan S S, IM Alexander Slizhevsky, GM Manik Mikulas (SVK) and FM Arjun Adireddy. 13-year-old Aakash won the tournament on tie-breaks. The remaining four were placed second to fifth respectively. The seven-day ten-player round-robin tournament was organized by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association at Hotel Abu Sarovar Portico in Chennai, Tamil Nadu from 21st to 27th July 2024.
