In the 1st round of the 31st TePe Sigeman & Co 2026, there were 2 decisive results. World No. 4 Nodirbek Abdusattorov continues his form and starts the tournament with a win over Zhu Jiner with black pieces. In another decisive game, American Prodigy Andy Woodward defeated local star Nils Grandelius to score 1st win in the 1st game. The game between World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen and Arjun Erigasi ended in a draw. Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus and Jorden van Foreest also shared the peace and drew their game in 30 moves. Kumaresh A wins International Rating Chess Fiesta Classical Rating 2026

Kumaresh A of Tamil Nadu scored 8/9 points to win the International Rating Chess Fiesta (Grand Prix) Classical Chess tournament. Ashutosh Jamwal of Jammu and Kashmir scored 7.5/9 and secured 2nd place after he defeated Kumaresh in the final round. Prakash Ram and Sumit Grover scored 7/9 to finish in 3rd and 4th place, respectively, according to their tiebreak scores. The tournament was organised by the Jammu District Chess Association with the support of Premier Chess Academy from 26th to 31st March 2026 at IDPS school, Jammu. One of the strongest Classical Chess Tournaments of 2026 is starting today. The 31st edition of TePe Sigeman & Co 2026 kicks off today, and as always, the playing field is a great mix of young talents and the strongest contenders. Former World Champion and current World No.1 Magnus Carlsen will be seen in action with Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Arjun Erigaisi, Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus, Zhu Jiner, Jorden van Foreest, Andy Woodward, and Nils Grandelius. All the players taking part in this year's tournament are in red-hot form, and it is going to be a fun-filled tournament to watch. The TePe Sigeman Chess Tournament has been held annually since 1993, except 3 years in between. FM Vedant Nagarkatte clear first at 1st Maverick Rapid Rating 2026

FM Vedant Nagarkatte scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 points to win the 1st Maverick FIDE Rapid Rating Chess Tournament 2026. Vedant drew his only game against IM Nubairshah Shaikh. Gaurang Bagwe, Srijit Paul, and Jeet Jain scored 8/9 points to finish in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th positions, respectively, according to their tiebreak scores. A new chess club open to all will begin at Phoenix Marketcity mall in Chennai on 2nd May

A new chess club is going to begin on the 2nd of May 2026 in Chennai at the Phoenix Marketcity mall in Velachery. The club is a part of the CSR activities of the Cholamandalam finance group and will be named as the Chola Chess Club. It is supported by ChessBase India and Chess Gurukul. The club is absolutely free and open to all and if you do visit it on day one, you will potentially get a chance to play against a future world class player - 10-year-old Sarbartho Mani.

Abhimanyu Mishra (USA), Leon Luke Mendonca (IND), Li Di (CHN), and Tomas Sosa (ARG), all 4 players, scored 7.5/9 to secure 1st to 4th positions respectively according to tiebreak scores. The tournament was organised by Chess Menorca at Ciutadella, Menorca, from 7th to 12th April. Aaryan Varshney scores 9/9 to win 7th DD-DBCA Above 1600 Open FIDE Rating 2026

Aaryan Varshney scored a brilliant 9/9 points to win the 7th DD-DBCA Above 1600 Open Fide Rating Chess Tournament-2026. Aaryan remained unbeaten throughout the event and scored a win over runner-up Utsab Chatterjee, too. IM Utsab Chatterjee of RSPB scored 8/9 points to finish 2nd. Despite losing the 1st and 3rd games, local boy Aniket Das won 6 in a row, scoring 7/9 points and securing 3rd place. 14-Year-Old Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus Becomes Youngest 2700 in Chess History

Turkish phenom Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus has created history!! At the age of 14 years, 10 months, and 13 days, he became the youngest chess player of all time to cross 2700 in live ratings. From 12th to 17th April, Yagiz played a match called the "Clash of Generations" against Former FIDE World Champion Veselin Topalov in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Yagiz scored a 5-1 win over Topalov to increase his rating by 22.4 points and take it to 2709.4. The youngster didn't stop after that and played 2 games for his team, SC Viernheim, in the German Bundesliga, and drew both of the games. After these results, Yagiz will have a published FIDE rating of 2708 on 1st May. 14-year-old Jake Shanty from Kerala has become the state’s seventh International Master. He achieved all three of his IM norms within just three months. In his early years, he faced health challenges due to respiratory allergies, which limited his ability to travel and play classical events. Ten-year-old Aarit Kapil secured his first International Master norm at the Menorca Open 2026. He scored 5/9 and performed at a rating of 2453. Along the way, he defeated a Grandmaster and an International Master, while also holding another Grandmaster and two International Masters to draws. He made a breakthrough performance against strong opposition in the tournament. Aarit is the same boy who once held Magnus Carlsen to a draw in an online game. Indrajeet lost just one game against Petr, while Prithvi and Petr were unbeaten throughout the tournament. Following a break of almost two months from classical chess, Ian Nepomniachtchi will be seen in action at the Sardinia World Chess Festival 2026. As the Sardinia Tournament is also included in the FIDE Circuit 2026-27, winning here would help the players to climb up in the FIDE Circuit leaderboard. Ian Nepomniachtchi and Parham Maghsoodloo are two 2700+ rated players taking part in this wonderful tournament. Diving Chess World Championship 2026 to be held on 16–17 May in Poland

The game is played in a swimming pool, where players dive underwater to make their moves. It is an interesting format that tests both physical endurance and chess calculation under challenging conditions. This year, the Diving Chess World Championship 2026 will take place on 16–17 May in Poland. Good news for Indians is that GM Harshit Raja will also be taking part in the event.
